I'm trying to remove my bar ends as part of mounting some real hand guards. Trying, not succeeding. What am I doing wrong? When I turn the screw the bar end also rotates. They are very hard to turn. Lots of unscrewing has got me only this far: <img src="https://snafu.smugmug.com/Public/Posted-in-2015/i-6HXZBfg/0/XL/DSCF1835-XL.jpg" title="dr650 bar end"> Any hints? My hands are sore from the attempt
Can you get good bite in the screw head when using a drill on high speed to back it out? Have a buddy clamp the bar end with cloth-covered vise-grips while you unscrew the screw with the drill. Maybe heat the screw up a bit first with a soldering iron. Try not to strip the head, or you may have to drill the head off.
Was 53 in NC yesterday- though I would go for a ride. 1.- Glad I had the DR on a battery tender! Had to crank the shit out of it to get her to start. Fire up, stall, fire up, stall repeat... Once I got her warmed up no further problems. Tells me I need to ride it more. 2.- 53 degrees felt warm when standing in the sun. Going down the road I realized I didn't wear enough clothes. Got a little chilly. Only rode for a few hours. It has rained like crazy around here lately. I found a few new wood trails and mud covered in wet leaves made me think I shouldn't be exploring by myself. I am also still not sold on the T8 and 63 combination. I don't know why but I find it squirrelly for aggressive knobbies. I keep saying I just need to ride on them more but every time I go riding I wish I had my IRC gp-1s back on. They weren't great at anything but decent enough at everything and felt good under the bike. I must just be weird.
Reasonably priced fuel bladder sale going on in vendors for those who want to keep stock tank and only on occasion need more fuel range. http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1039083 I'm picking one up even though I have a 5g IMS and 225+ mi range because I have some routes planned that need 250+ to be safe.
I sure don't miss that east coast humidity when I move out west. 53 is cold back east and warm out west.
Not sure if anyone had tried this before but I remounted my blinkers. Had to remount them as the old rack I use does not have provisions for the blinkers. With the new pro cycle panniers I had to delete the factory grab mounts which means I lost the factory blinker location. In about an hours worth of work,?couple of screws, and some drilling I was able to remount them underneath the rack and on onto the rear brake light. Please note I have no idea if this is legal but they should be better protected off road.
I am going to have to look at that myself. I want those grab handles gone. Don't remember reading anything about the spacing between the lights, in Tx anyway. It does make me think of one inch round plastic dowels to hold them off a bit. You couldn't keep them on that org standoff they were on?
I'd be leery of the blinker lights being drowned out by the brake light. Who knows. I like to have as much visibility from the rear as possible to hopefully prevent a rearender. .
Not 100% sure I am understanding what your saying. For these blinkers they use a nut to sinch them down. There's wasn't a lot of thread left on mine as the previous owner cut them down but the fronts ones which I replaced have more thread. So if your asking about spacing them off a little more I'm sure it's possible. I will eventually change out to a better rack that will have provisions for them and I will do a new rack and the Dr250 light swap when money is better.
Well the brake light won't be drowned out by the blinkers due to the brake light being a super LED and the blinkers are just a 5w halogen. I just keep the blinkers so I don't get hassled by the cops. I do my best to keep my head on a swivel and I'm always checking mirrors and over the shoulder before making a lane change. My old WR400 which I converted to supermoto I used a DRC edge with a LED upgrade that was brake lights and blinkers all in one. Loved the simplicly of it, might upgrade it down the road. That answered my question. The racks I have seen that do have the mount for the turn signals are not as wide as I would like. The rack I have, mounted a cutting board on it to extend the width, this is to keep the tail bag from resting on the turn signals.
Ok gotcha, I was having that issue as well when I ran the stock grab handles and the rack that's on there now. This should solve that issue.
It's been a long time since I've handled these but I do recall that they would always fall off and get lost too easily. Try just pulling on them while moving side to side. They use a rubber sleeve which gets compressed as the screw is tightened. It's not the most reliable method of mounting something inside a tube. If that doesn't do it try side loading the weight while unscrewing the bolt.
The redneck in me think he should just take a flat head and mallet and wack them the heck off. That what I had to do with the Accerbis ones that the PO installed in my old WR.
Tried the impact driver. Didn't seem to help. I'm going to grab the weight with a pair of pliers wrapped in leather and get out the air impact. If that doesn't do the job (and I suspect it wont) I'll give the pull while moving side-to-side a try as it does feel like a rubber sleeve slipping inside the bars. I'll give those methods a try this afternoon. Thanks for the many comments.
