If by "third world" you're referring to post-WWII German farmers trying to recover from the collapsed German economy then you're bang on.
No, just one of the ones I saw on the local CL. But I think I'm going the Other Way, meaning a Cheap Van, with the rest of the Play Fund going towards the two-wheel side of the fence. Otis .
Apparently in Europe (and Mexico) they have opening "slider in glass" windows available. that for whatever reason are not available here Here we have the CRL windows with the "awning" glass in the bottom.. but you can't get them for the right rear of the van because the sliding door could snap the awnings off if they were open when you opened the door. I'm trying to find a dealer in the UK that can sell me a couple of the sliders
Eduardo, I don't think Chris in the UK can sell us parts over here any more. I was able to get a dealer here in Texas to order a European part number (one that had never been sold in the US), they had to submit a request and MB had to release the PN for nafta sales. Took an extra week or two but they got it done. Try to get your dealer to run a availability on those windows. I was able to get genuinemercedesparts.com to order a European accessory as well , just total list price and gnarly lead time. Chris is bound by franchising rules, he can sell in the uk but then you have VAT tax and have to ship them to a third party in the UK and then ship em to US of A. Those windows are awesome though!!
Geek, how simple would it be to have them delivered to a UK address and then posted on to you? I'm guessing they're fairly hefty things to handle, and probably expensive to ship, but I'm in the UK if I can be of any help.
thanks gents.. turns out it is a moot point.. Chris wrote me back that they don't make the specific window I'm looking for - 144" passenger side rear with a slider in it
Maybe there's a business opportunity for you. Look at the design of the mid-body slider and design something similar for the rear body, then have it prototyped and install it. Put the details about the window on a small magnetic sticker beneath the glass, and Sprinterphiles at all these outdoor gatherings you go to will notice and clamor for their own. Ramp up production once you get firm orders for 25 units.
I spent a few weeks in January camping out of the back of a VW Crafter van in Tasmania. If I had had a bike trailer on the back, it'd have been perfect. Vans are waaaay better offroad than you would think. The long wheelbase ones give you a lot of time to react when the back starts coming around.
I've been making a weak attempt at finding a set of seats to install as the first step in the Geekification of my KraftyKustom original. Found some possibilities on the Sprinter Forum but couldn't get replies from the sellers or the one I did hear back from wasn't really enthusiastic about having to ship. I got a wild hare yesterday and checked crazedlist and found some 2010s in Phoenix. Emailed back and forth all yesterday afternoon and left this morning at 7 and was home by 11:15 with this: Not bad for $100 and $50 more for diesel. I guess it's time to get to work. I may be a geek: But, I'm no Geek: .
Just chiming in - here's a great place in your neck a da woods to learn some advanced ice/snow driving skills. http://winterdrive.com/ I highly recommend making a trip up there before school is done until next winter...
Thanks for the link.. I worked as an advanced driving instructor in Canada in the Winter 20 years ago and spent lots of fun time sliding around and teaching students to do the same. That said, a refresher never hurts
Are those seats out of a Sprinter? I am thinking of one and looked at one today that had sliding doors on both sides? And according to the owner a factory window in the roof? Can I ask how wide those seats are?
Looked at this tonight and the fact that you can stand up in it and that it gets 25+ mpg has me wanting to get drink the cool aid
