Didnt see a thread on this one yet... April 28 to May 8 in Morocco- Anybody from here sign up, yet? Neduro did this one last year, and came in 6th overall! I cant seem to find a legitimate website, apart from the Facebook page. Here's a short video pilfered directly from a google search from last year's: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/GmvNEvOb3H4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Honestly I've got a hankering to try this one. Seems like a good one to get feet wet. Not outrageously expensive for a real rallye.
Right thanks- i did find that one actually... kinda of spaced it till you mentioned Good place to get used to French
Cool! I was wondering, can you explain a little bit about the format? Its mostly a distance-keeping event?
Hi, It's only distance-keeping. You are issued a collection of daily roadbooks. Everyday your odometer's mileage is checked at Control Depart at the beggining of the Special Stage and at the end of it at Control Arrivée. If you manage to do the exact distance of the roadbook for that day you get zero points, for every 100 meters more or less you get a penalty. If your odometer has a known deviation you can declare how much of it at race start and that will be considered on your daily distances. The idea is to navigate the roadbook exactly as it was conceived to be ridden. There are Checkpoints marked on the roadbook and there can be other "hidden" CP's, so you are not tempted to solve navigation errors by taking shortcuts in other legs. Altough the event is not timed, there are some limitations on your timeschedule: there's a time interval for you to start your Special, you can decide when to start inside that time window. You must arrive to CP's until a certain time. If you don't you will have to proceed directly to the end of the stage and you'll get maximum penalty for that day. The same with riding after dark, if you didn't got to the end of the special before sunset you will get maximum penalty and must proceed to the bivouac or you are reigned in and bivouac where you are. This is basically to assure logistics and safety of everyone involved. The event is conceived as friendly as it can, but there's always some rivalry among participants and there is a sort of race between the fast guys to see who can make the day without navigation mistakes and in the fastest possible way It's a great way to practice navigation on the environment of the serious, timed races, and it costs a fraction of any of those races. The tracks are as diversified as Morocco is, and as beautifull as they can get. I've done it once some years ago and it was great fun. Arqui was there last year and can add some details, for sure. I'll call in Luis Lourenço to this thread, he's a big promoter of the event outside the french community and he is already on the lookout for the details of the 2012 edition.
Thanks for that, That sounds and looks really great. I am already in contact with Luis via facebook and our mutual friend C.Grimm.
Interested in this event as well. Logistics from the US appear at first to be the largest hurdle. Sign me up for any updates or info for those of us stateside who'd like to participate. See you at Sandblast Stagehand.
Me too; probably not 2012 but perhaps 2013... There was a rumour going about possible rentals and support?
In agreement with you guys... I think maybe 2013 if there isnt a bike rental option. I also heard a rumor someone was looking into it. I said I would contact WHeels through Morocco or Redtread Morocco and see if they are interested in renting for such an endeavor,m but I havent done it yet. Chris has a mind to buy a DRZ over there and sell it at the end Talk about adding an adventure onto one already Wild Man! Looking forward to Sandblast, yes. JJ told me they sorted your 450 issues by keeping the ECU and replacing the rest of the bike?
Something like that. Actually I'm doing most of the "replacing the rest of the bike" with my ever so slow conversion to a Speedbrain 450RR. In the end there won't be much left but the ECU. Hopefully I'll finish it one of these days. See you in SC! (On a KTM)
Is, there's that possibility... Now heading to the YEP - Year End Party, I will return to the subject next year A great 2012 to you all

Under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this edition will bring competitors from Marrakech to Agadir and borrow the best Moroccan tracks. Technical and navigation will be waiting for you, just like the friendliness and cheerfulness ... 26 years and the determination of a man were allowed to the Friendship Raid to become a reference in the closed world of Rally-Raid Africans. Each year, more and more pilots join AIO and enjoy this adventure to taste the joys and galleys of Moroccan tracks. The Raid is special to see all nine types of terrain and enjoy a seamless organization where security is synonymous with friendliness and respect. There is no "left behind" in AIO, competitors ride at their level and take advantage of the raid at their own pace. The alternative! With the predicted demise of some Rally Raid and geopolitical problems of the regions that host events normally, IOA creates the event and opens the raid to vehicles of categories T1, T2 but also to trucks Class T4. The Raid of Friendship is a great opportunity for drivers and teams to come and test the equipment and work their navigation. Back to basics and return values of the Rally Raid entant on a technical course of alternating steps long, and difficult to navigate to the old, all without the pressure of the clock, but with an obligation to be as regular as possible . Raid of Friendship: School Rally Today's youth are tomorrow's champions! It is in this passion for youth and sport that AIO support frames and especially 18 to 25 years with a very special formula that allows them to learn to navigate and drive in rally.
