finn, stop posting those photos, my berg is insanely jealous. i love the shot with the flying embers, were you waiting for something to pop in the fire or just got lucky with the long exposure required?

some tips for budget luggage setups here, although a few are downright ugly.

purchased a set of vison X and a set of the ADV monster led lights. The adv monster lights were way brighter than the vision X, I even crashed tested them by doing cart wheels at about 50 mph. Lights help up great. I put them on every bike I get now.

I wrote you a really long and detailed response since I have the same two bikes, then the site ate my post. Ugggg.....! Anyway, take the Husaberg. I put 35,000 miles on my KTM 525 before I bought the Husaberg. Lots of dual sport with gear, and what not camping for weeks at a time. i thought the KTM was the best bike ever. Then I bought the Husaberg, with 5500 miles on my 2011 Husaberg, I haven't ridden the KTM 200 miles since buying the Husaberg. The KTM is still a great bike, but the Husaberg is better. Buy some Wolfman or Giantloop luggage (i run Wolfman stuff), get a 70 degree fuel tank, place a really good inline fuel filter on your bike, and invest in a really good sprocket and chain (the original was gone in 3300 mile). Put the LED rear taillight on your bike, and ride it wherever. That's my advice. I'll try to post some stuff that I've done to the Husaberg to make it better, but none of that is absolutely necesary, except maybe adding a HID headlamp bulb so you can see at night. These kits can be purchased from HD Bright for around $80.

I have the stock berk mask off the bike but the aftermarket one I have is not as street legal as I'd hoped.

I love those Baja LEDs but I need to be able to ride past cars without dazzling them into smashing into me...

Dimmers are just bullshit for "day legal" in my opinion, I want bright lights not yellow but still too-high lamps...

Is the only answer some HID replacement for the stock element?

Aftermarket HIDs are NOT street legal! But at least you can get reflectors that have good cut-offs to prevent blinding other drivers, and colors around 4300-5000k look similar enough to halogen lamps.

The LED dimmer does not turn the light yellow, it simply dims the intensity... But it's certainly not ideal for lots of street riding due to the lack of a focused beam.

My BD Squadron with Skene Designs very compact and effective dimmer works perfectly to manage day and night use of LEDs on my FE390. I run my Squadron at 20-30% for day use and as "low" for night use. I used friends on foot and in cars in front of me to get a real world adjustment of brightness. Never have any problems with blinding cars or attracting the po po and plenty of light for lighting in traffic at night. With the flick of my high beam switch or flash alert button I have 100% blazing intensity. Works fantastic, definitely not BS. Like Luaks said, better cut-off reflectors would be an improvement for dual-sport and road use.

I have this HID kit I bought off of a fellow on UH forum. It uses a 55w HID lamp, but the important part is the KTM quad-runner lamp housing, which protrudes out much further than the MC housing/reflector that comes stock. I thought I read about people melting their lens with an HID in the stock housing.

Either way, over 10,000 miles of dual sport use and no issues besides a little melting of the reflector near the lamp, minor enough I'm not worrying about it for some time to come.
Bright as hell with a focused beam. I don't want to have to choose between not blinding people or seeing the road while riding at night, and I ride at night more often in winter time so this solution works for me.
The quad reflector has a nice cutoff and as long as it's not tipped way up is no problem on the street with other cars.
Though I subscribe to the thought of wanting to be as seen as possible and keep it tipped up and right in the cagers eyes for daytime street riding since it doesn't actually blind them in daylight, just gets their attention, at night I tip it down by sliding it down on the forks with a couple of bracket extensions I made. Should be in this thread somewhere, if it's not I can find the photos.

I would imagine you could source the parts locally and make it, though this kit is proven to me.

Should be a great combination with the new BD LED lights to supplement some output for fast desert night riding.

I just got lucky with the embers, though there was plenty popping going on so it was inevitable with just a few shots.

Those are Wolman Rollie's Medium size. I do use them, but have found other ways to pack that aren't quite as intense to rig on a daily basis. All the info is near the start of this thread on that, and more recently on my current packing setup.
plus, now that I'm running a Safari tank, I doubt this setup would work. I find the bike to be balanced just fine with a 20 pound load on the back, my solution was to get smaller camping gear and take less stuff.

I ran a Woody's wheel with RAD cush hub on my last bike, that's the route I will go on this one when the budget allows.

Hi guys,
Well, i am now officially allowed to be here. I just took delivery of my new to me FE570.

The bike just happens to be the one that Husaberg Rally Australia set up for David Schwarz to ride in this year's 2012 Australasian Safari where he came 7th outright and won the production class 450cc+

It's lucky for the bike that i don't have 5% of the skill of a true Rally rider (nor the balls!!) so it looks like just some Adventure rides etc....... a semi-retirement for the bike you might say

Obviously the bikes are set up to be as reliable as possible by Garry and his team, but i will just tidy up some "stuff" and add only a couple of things.

A question.......................................... Can i fit a radiator fan on this bike with Force radiator guards AND a Safari tank fitted on the front??

I'm sure that there will not be as much airflow with me riding the bike as opposed to a racer, so i would like to fit the fan with a separate switch to help out in the slow, shitty stuff.

I would post pictures but don't have an account anywhere to send them!

I'd also suggest taking a look at Zenfolio - if you do go to a paid subscription, I believe they're slightly cheaper. I use them for my own meager efforts (but I have to say, Finn has me beat ). I also find it interesting that I just did a little Google search on migrating from Zenfolio to Smugmug - just about all the results gave options for going *from* Smugmug... YMMV.

My HID is 35 watts and the California law just states that a forward facing light be white, and under 65 watts. It says nothing about HID specifically and they are legal. Now here is the good thing, they make them in the 5000 and 6000k range, bothe fall within the spectrum of white. Many new autos are now coming with HID lamps, including the newest Shelby from Ford.

bugger, just shorted out my keyboard by dripping saliva into it. looks awesome rob, we'll have to get an FE570 adventure ride happening for southeast queenslanders...
