Honda CrossTourer, Yamaha S10, Tiger 800XC, BMW 800GS....OR

Which bike would you own or consider buying? ORRRRRRRR, everyone's building the wrong bloody bike and you would rather have something completely different?!

For me, I would rather have the baby Yamaha XT660 Tenere instead of all these but it's not in the states. Currently I'm torn on the Tiger 800XC or BMW 800GS although for some stupid reason I like the new Honda X-Tourer.

i have never been a yamaha guy, so Honda has some interest for me.
but that Tiger is Dreamy!
I have ridden the BMW around, and as nice as it is it has a big long feeling to it, i felt wrong on it- so jury's out on the others.

S10, CrossTourer, XTZ 660 -> too heavy
Tiger -> in my opinion: buttugly
F800GS -> at least a bit better looking then the Tiger

Love my Ulysses but my next bike will be the Yama or 800XC

This won't help you at all, but I have an R1200GS ADV that I am falling out of love with. At this point feels like a Gold Wing with knobbies, just a big tourer. Hugely practical, but dull.

What I want is something that is 100% toy, with no redeeming practical value whatsoever. I am currently lusting for a Ducati Streetfighter.

The S10 pricing varies wildly across territories - it's cheap in the USA, it's a ball-breaker in Europe.

The Tenere is my top end, I'm waiting to see what the 800XC costs, as it is the most logical and awesome replacement for my F650GS... ...and I haven't ruled out a Tiger 1050.

No, thats what the Beemerboy's shout but they are comparing a "Lada" 1200 with the S10, as soon as you put in Spoked wheels, Panniers, ABS and TC in the GSA package, its almost a whopping 4000€ cheaper then the GSA...

Th silliest thing of all is you'll have to wait month if you want such a GS without ABS, it's a special built item with a special wiring loom, so actually its more expensive for BMW to built the cheapest model

WR250r/x FTMFW or maybe a KTM SMT or SE in a pinch.

The XT is huuuuuuuge. The XC is FUGLY. The GS has BMW reliability. The XDresser isn't even worth considering.

Think I'll wait to make a judgment call when these are actually ridden, tested, prices released including accessory costs. Hard to evaluate at this point.

that new Yammie is pretty nice, but not for 13K. Same for the BMW. Dunno about Tiger I like the crosstour, the V4 is a sweet motor (I've got over 80,000mi on my 5th gen. VFR and have yet had to adjust the valves), but it's too plasticky for my taste.

S10, why?, coz it's the best bike I have ever ridden, and that's why I bought one, and it's the odd one out here, but only if you consider an extra 400cc's is a tad different from the others.

Ah, that's why everyone shies away from it, they now know what BMW reliability actually means

If Triumph got their head out of their arse and did the 800 triple properly with:

- 3 cylinder engine laid down by 65 degrees or more

- bore / stroke ratio less than 1.1

- gearbox and clutch in compact form as per V Strom etc

- dry sump with remote oil tank

- fuel volume predominantly below seat with capacity fore and aft of the seat position

All intended to lower the centre of gravity, reduce rider input / fatigue and centralise mass.


- double sided swing arm because single sided swing arms are just so much more demanding engineering-wise for zero functional gain ( the 800 has the double already - I'm aware of that)

- narrow width elliptical muffler mounted a bit above average position of the rear axle with rider on board. UNDER-SEAT ARSE and LEG COOKERS ARE ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF FLAWED DESIGN PRIORITIES ie marketing / form dominating function

- chrome moly, thin wall steel trellis frame. FRAME IS BLACK, ENGINE IS POLISHED BARE OR "BRUSH ETCHED" ALUM. Engines should be clean, shiny and "sharp" pieces of sculpted detail not black planar slabs.

- fully adjustable suspension

- 18" rear wheel 21" front wheel

This spec sheet would have my $ in a heart beat.

For sure. 'BMW reliability' is an oxy moron these days. If the poster wasn't kidding around, he's REALLY out of touch.
