All combined in a spectacular island in Central Greece. This year Evia Rally is using some of the top special stages in the continental part of the country.
A perfect combination for family vacations and racing in one of the most beautiful cities, the capital of Evia Island, Halkida.

This year the 100% tracks can offer excitement not only to cars or bikes, but also trucks, buggies and SSV.
For the enthusiasts, a 2 days race is included within the race with only 500klm of racing.
For supporters or just tourists and visitors of the Rally, a big variety of activities such as water sports, excursions, trekking and other.
This year a joint venture between 3 organizers in Balkans will provide an high end result in all aspects of race.
Edvin Kasimati from Rally Albania will be our Roadbook consultant and with some assistance from our Bulgarian friends from Balkan Off Road Marathon in timing equipment and management, everything aims to top of racing and competition.

The initial registration period of Evia Rally Rally Raid 2012, was completed today with success. 65 bikes, 7 ATV and 20 cars, among them the first T4 Truck, registered so far bringing Italy first in the row with 35 competitors.
Evia Rally 2012 aims to become one of the biggest rallies in Balkans along with partner races, Balkan, Albania Rally & 24hours Rally.
Registrations will be open till 1st of April 2012.

Can anyone tell me if this Rally is race that I could do as a beginner? I'm looking to get my feet wet in the world of rally.

Sure,

how familiar/proficient are you with navigation? The riding should be fairly easy, it's all doable assuming you're not gunning for a podium finish... all roads need to accomodate cars as well, and there is only one small section of sand (beach) riding from what I've heard

I just need to point out that navigation here in Greece is not exactly tricky, but plentiful.
Meaning that for every rally I have raced here, there are a lot of directions (tulips) and don't even think of
navigating without using the second decimal on your ICO computer...

The longest day is about 350kms, and average speeds (because of the twisty mountain roads here) should be around the 45km/h - 50km/h range, so I am expecting 6-7 hour days on the longer stages of days 2 to 5 (day 1 is the prologue of 100kms).

Last year my buddy (and I) rode our first 5 day rally in Serres, and while it wasn't a breeze, a reasonable finishing place
was quite easy to achieve...

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like a good event for me to start with. The down side is that I have never raced with a road book so I better get looking for a good post on how thats done. Second. I don't have a road book holder so I better get hot on that, Third; finding a way to get my bike down to the event from Germany. I guess I could rent a van but I sure would like to link up with some people to help off set the cost. and fourth; I better sign up!!:)

check the entry list on their website, I see a bunch of Austrians coming down for the race,
maybe you could hook up with them?

And, yes, get started with navigation! A simple set up like the ones discussed here:

are all that is necessary... find any type of rally that has been organized in your area, beg, borrow or steal a roadbook
and get started!

The rest will come naturally at the race

I was reading the EVIA site info on the rally and I have a few questions.
First: Will I stay at the same place every night or will I have to to have someone drive my gear to the next stop. (I plan on hauling my bike down with the car)
Second: Proof of physical fitness. I have a yearly physical completed since Im a pilot will this proof work for when I pay my one day license fee of 50euro.
Third: What tires should I run. I have a set of deserts with only 400 miles on them.
Fourth: Should I consider pay a support company!
Im also looking for anyone who would like to ride along and help with the transportation costs.

The bivouac is the same for all 5 days... at Kimi (eastern Evia)

Not sure about proof of physical fitness, do you have a race license from your federation? I think that should be enough,
but don't take my word for it

I was thinking of running deserts as well but someone who knows the terrain well told me not to... April is still spring, mountain snow will be melting and the terrain there might be a bit muddy (or slippery wet rocks) in more than a few places... I plan on running a Pirelli Scorpion Mid hard, one front should be more than enough, I might take a second rear with me if I trash the first on the first three days

Will you be riding a KTM? Not sure about Evia this year, but in Serres last year KTM SouthEast Europe had a support truck at the race with lots of spares and mechanics. If they are in Evia I don't think you will need to pay for a support package... The organization here in Greece has helped more than a few competitors out in the past, it's a bit like a family

I got a email back from the organizers and was informed that a general proof of fitness from a doctor was all that was required. So I have a physical set up for next week.
The next problem I have is transportation. I priced a ferry out of Venice today with one car and trailer, was quoted right at about 1000 euro which is around 1300USD for me. Throw in another 500euro for registration and fees and Im looking at bank and I still dont have a nav set up for the bike or new tires.

I sure wish I could get set up with others that are headed that way to help offset the cost. I'm just having a hard time telling the wife that Im going to spend close to 4000 euro for a 7 day trip.

I think the organizers have set up special transport rates with a ferry company called ANEK Lines
because of the large number of Italian competitors,... email him back, or I can ask around if you want...

I just spoke to Meletis, the organizer, he said that there is also the possibility of you sharing a Dutch support team that is coming to the race, and he has info regarding the discount on the ferry tickets... send him an email

I just sent a email out to Memo Tours to see if they can help me. I think Im back in the game even with hauling my bike down with a car the ferry is only going to cost 450euro. Thanks for the help I'll keep you updated.
