Well...I am not in the saddle yet...but it all starts today: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56675 I am selling everything and hitting the road as of the 18th of November beginning with the Lone Rider Baja event and then across the bottom (warm) states during the winter. I will have a strict budget of $40.00 per day to work with, so it should be interesting in that I will have to stop after 1 tank of gas per day. Never know where I will end up...and if I have to make a longer ride to make it to camp...I guess I'll just eat less. To be continued... Here is where all of the pictures will be for the trip: https://www.cornfed.smugmug.com I will update as much as possible while trying to get lost in small town America with a tent.
good luck on your jorney Vance,,sound like you are a cool and gentle fellow,,is a shame i live to close to offer you a place to stay,, I'm sure the ADVrider fraternity will help out,,also get the BMW Anonimous box from the MOA you never know when you will need a hand... If you need one last final check on the bike i can give you a hand and for sure a few mecanical tips for repairs and service along the way.. this month that i spend in europe was really helpful for me to realize my priorities and how much I miss home and a super wonderful friend that was waiting for me all along:rabia, hopefully the results are some how similar in your case...
Welcome back Ricky. Glad to hear that you are happy. Well, my trip is starting early because I just broke up, but that is a good thing. My ex needs someone who can pay a lot more attention to her. I think I will be ready for love again after this ride... I would like to take you up on your offer for looking over the bike. I can't think of anyone else I would rather do that! I also need a little advice on which tools to add to the kit so that it is not too heavy but will get me through some problems that might come up. I have the rear seal being replaced on the drive this 26th under warranty. I will PM you after that and hopefully be able to ride by your place for a visit before the Baja ride. I will buy you and your girl dinner for the trouble. I think I met her briefly at one event? 49er? Anyway...thank you so much. Vance
You might be interested in finding more info on traveling by bike on the Horizons Unlimited website. Great place to find answers to all your questions.
Congratulations on having the nuts to actually do what most of us, me at least, only dream of. I look forward to hearing about your adventures.
Pics, dude, lots of pics. When you hit the mid-west you can save a few bucks on dinner one night. Just let me know when you get near Indy. dave
What they said. We wanna see lots of words and lots of pics. You're doing what few of us can do (fear, reality, whatever). If you head this way, be sure to let us know!
Keeping to one tank a day will allow you to really take it all in. Eat from the super markets, carry fishing gear, what ever it takes.
Not if, but when you make it to San Diego, do stop in. Get you a good meal, brew and a place to crash for the night.
Same thing in Austin, TX. Will you be online occasionally to let us know when you're approaching so we can confirm arrangements and get you our contact info (so you don't have to carry a bunch of random phone numbers?
$40/day is a good target amount. The hard part is when you want to go to an art museum or some special event, that alone can use up a days coin. Good luck!
I'll also swap beer/food for stories! Just let me know when you are in Southern Oregon. Can't wait to hear about the adventures.
