If you like to have maps of the countries.....Best to get them before you ride here. GPS in Peru is really bad as well, and I have tried to find some better paper maps than I already have but you cannot find them. Just FYI

As Mark heads toward the tip of South America, let's set the mood with the great Steve Morse and Ghostwind, here on the Radioman network.

Saturday Am I was ready to head out of Lima. Brazil Visa in hand, and looking forward to the road.

Picked up my bike at BMW dealer.

    Here is it's location.

Said goodbye to Eduardo who was really helpful!

Before I left the hostel in Lima.... Had a chuckle at someones wiring in an outside plug. :lol3 Safety Third!

Then down the coast of Peru, out of the clouds and back into a bit of blue sky.

Then I stopped in Huacachina which is a little "oasis in the desert" or a big tourist stop. It is cool as the area is surrounded by huge dunes.... Place to hang out for a couple days in a small area. Very casual. But the place is full right now so there are no rooms available for tonight.....

So of course I climbed to the top of one of the ridges!

    Awesome views of the dunes

Awesome report and pictures as ever!

Glad to know you'll visit Brazil. Our country is a very expensive and difficult one to see entirely being as big as it is, but it's worth it!!!

Is Transamazonica Highway in your plans?

The Map Store here in Charlotte has some pretty decent maps of all the countries in South America. I know, I've looked. :deal

I pass the shop every day on the way to class. You need any just send the word and an address. I'll take care of the rest.

Huacachina looks like it's one wind storm from being buried. Those trees that are almost covered on the right side of the photo in sand are impressive. :eek1

Had a relaxed morning around town, made sure to smell the flowers :D

The dunes are full of people sand boarding and riding dune buggies...

    Peaceful Oasis in the morning

Then riding down the road about 90 Miles to Nazca.

Arrived just after noon to take a look at then famous Nazca Lines. Stopped at the Tower overlook about 12 miles north of town.... you get a slight look at the spider, but it is hard to gain perspective.

The best way to see them is by small airplane. So I went to the airport after checking into my hotel. Was a bit of a hectic place that you sign up and pay then wait for a few hours until they get you on a flight.

    They need this reminder? :huh

We will be flying for 35 minutes to see the large "drawings" in this desert area.

    Here we go!!!

    Out over the desert

Then the pilot does circles so the left side can see and then the right side!

    This is the hummingbird

On this group of mountains you can see the Astronaut on the front lower mountain, It was really visible from the air.

    It was an interesting flight.....

Back on the ground safe and sound.

Stayed here at the Hotel Don Hono just off the main Plaza de Armas Was $60 Soles ($23.50 USd) single Pravato Very nice place!

Love all the fruit carts around town.

    Had a great dinner at:

Then in for the night. Heading for Cusco and Machu Picchu . We stay there at least 10 days.... and looking forward to the time stopped and ability to explore the area.

Long day of riding today if I am going to make Cusco :ricky

Just got back from Cusco! Learn these words ... No gracias. You'll understand when you get near the tourist area. The sharks are relentless there. Love the city though. Miss it already. Try the cuy!

    Safe travels!

Epic ride yesterday from Nazca to Cusco . Best riding I have had since Colombia. Just loved the full day of riding!

out of Nazca headed for the mountains!

My day started riding up several thousands of feet.......

Blue sky as I continued up to higher elevations!!

and of course lots of Llama's and Alpaca's (and other animals).

    so many along the road....

Not much traffic except a few trucks as I crossed the high plains ....... For my PNW friends, was riding for hours over the height of Mt Rainer, and 3,000 feet over Mt hood. Was spectacular in my book!!

Snow capped Mountains in the distance, lakes. Of course it dropped to 48 degrees and some wind, but was a ride that the pictures do not even capture!

.......... More later on this great day of riding!
