My name is Gene Menzies, the owner of MotoSolutions and the developer of FogTech Advanced Anti-Fog.

We need your help evaluating a proposed new product that has been in development for nearly 3 years. We are tentatively calling it RainKote™ Water Shield. It is designed to cause raindrops to roll off your helmet faceshield as you ride so you don't get that nasty distorting water film. We believe RainKote™ Water Shield is long lasting and will significantly improve your vision in the rain making riding safer and more enjoyable, especially at night.

Before we bring it to market, we would like to have 200 serious riders test RainKote™ Water Shield in real world conditions to confirm our lab tests and riding results or send us back to the drawing board. There is no cost to you, except a little time.

RainKote™ Water Shield is mostly a very special wax and water. So it will not harm your shield in any way. It is easy to apply and it’s completely transparent when on your shield.

This test is open to riders anywhere in the world. If you often ride in the rain and wish to participate, please follow the instructions below. Within 2 weeks, you will receive an email indicating if you have been selected for the test. (We need 200 volunteers and reserve the right to be selective.) Shortly thereafter you will receive your test sample which should coat 3 shields or more. About 45 days later you will get an email questionnaire asking about your experiences riding with RainKote™ Water Shield. Of course, if you experience early results we would love to hear from you.

We really appreciate your participation in this product evaluation. Thank you.

    Hey Gene....

If it works half as well as your FogTech does, then it should be a winner.

I sure hope it works too. We had our first real rain here in northern California about a week ago. Wore my Arai with RainKote on the right half of the shield. At 25 to 30 mph, the right side had a few rounded droplets under 1mm in size. The left was a mess and totally wet with splatters and smearing. Bad reflections off the street lights.

Got on the freeway and bumped her up to 60 - 70. The left side was better with the wind scouring off some of the water. But still a mess. Right side was damn near clean with very few tiny, tiny drops. Rain just seemed to dissappear off it. Yes!!!!! :D

Only out for about 30 minutes as traffic was horrible and I was concerned about slick roads with the new rain.

I am very anxious to hear how RainKote works for you guys and gals with all the different shields, different applications and weather. I am especially anxious to hear how long it lasts.

Oh, yes. Everyone will get a FogTech packet...good idea.

Even if this product is short lasting, I'd buy it. While riding home in the dark and in a hard rain last week I swore I'd fine a better alternative. Hope this is it!

Finally got to test it out today.

Around 40mph beads up nicely and shield stayed nice and clear, much better than Rain-X

Coming home from Wimer (20-30 minute ride) 11 pm tonite, half on a small country road with lots of oncoming traffic and half on freeway, it was flat pouring out! Outside of shield was still shedding water nicely, inside (treated with Fog Tech) was fog free but starting getting spattered with droplets of rain, as did my glasses.
Arai SZ Ram III is not the greatest helmet in the rain. But the Arai shield, is by far, much more clear for riding at night than the shield on my cheap HJC full face helmet. After about 15 minutes, inside face shield was getting more and more wet, and started to fog up a lil at the top.

With the help of both products I made it home, without them, I'm sure I'd still be out there somewhere... and possibly gone off the road, visibility was very sucky, so much water on the road I could barely see the fog lines.
That coupled with a few assholes driving at me with their high beams on made it a lil' tricky a couple times!

And glad you made it home.

I will be sending out that RainKote questionnaire the first week of January. But based on what you reported, you had a much clearer shield as the water was beading up right? What would you normally see on the shield without RainKote?

Was it a downpour the entire time?

My test kit has arrived. Now all I need is rain. Wife thinks I've gone crazy looking at the forecast and giving out because no rain at the moment.

It was raining so hard I almost went back, but there's something about sleeping in my own bed that made we push on.

Yes, the view was much clearer with the Rainkote, unlike Rain-X, the beads woulds actually roll off the shields surface.

Without the treatment or even when treated with Rain-X, my shield would end up with a wet film on it's surface that obscured my vision.

BTW, My helmet was exposed to the weather for nearly 8 hours, since I left it hanging on my mirror while I was inside (eating turkey and ham)
And it rained off and on the entire time, the last couple hours it was a total downpour!

Applied my Rainkote many days ago when it arrived, but haven't had any rain yet. I've cleaned my shield with Plexus a couple times since the original application of RainKote. Should I reapply RainKote after a certain number of normal shield cleanings?

I did get in some heavy fox with the RainKote and I got a super-fine mist on the shield. Occasionally some droplets would get together to form a droplet and immediately fly off the shileld. Small test, but worked great for the misty stuff!

I have not tested Plexus ability to strip off the RainKote. Let me know how many times you have cleaned and if the water is still beading.

I heard from another rider that light rain and misting is where the RainKote really did well. If there was a downpour, vision was bad no matter what. Is that your experience?

The only similar product I've previously tried was rain-x.
Comparing to it, RainKote seemed easier to apply.

I applied rainkote on previous week and since that haven't rained.
After a week, yesterday I got the first rain. It was a short test, riding in light rain for about an hour.

In light rain, with rain-x, water formed small particles that would stay put. That doens't happen with RainKote. At low speeds, water drops simply roll down faceshield, and as soon as you gain some speed the water instantly flys away.
