FOUND IT at it at LAST, and the bike runs just fine. tnx for all the help and I did try the a few of them.

I picked up a nice little TTR50 for the niece and it needed the carb clean. So couldn't wait so I pulled off, wasn't to bad, So while putting everything back together I dropped the needle valve on the garage floor which by the way has commercial carpet.
So on the hands and knees even with a flashlight can't find it! No its not in my shoe either. So I was wondering before I call the shop tomorrow are most needle valves the same? I assume they have come in different lengths but never measured one or looked that close.
I swear I had not even opened the second beer.

a few years back I did the same thing with my daughters PW50.

I looked for days, finally ordered a new needle.

about a week later found the original one.

    it happens.

Put a new bag on the vacuum cleaner. Vac area where needle is supposed to be. Look in debris in bag for needle.

Long ago I bought a rolling magnetic "sweeper" the type you use to pick up nails on job sites.

Run that around, under benches and such.

    Does a good job.

Check in your pants cuffs, too, if applicable. You'd be amazed...

It might be steel. You say it was the needle? If you have a large magnet wouldn't hurt to wave it around the floor.

If it might be steel then try the magnet, but the best way finding this stuff like this is to use a vacuum and ask your wife for an old pair of pantyhose and put that over the end of the vacuum.

this should really be a picture thread.

here is the top reb/comp adjuster on my WP50 forks.
Nice little thing isn't it. In removing it from the forks I just carelessly pulled it out and of course the spring and the two ball bearings shot out in three different directions. I managed to keep my eyes on all three at once, somehow, and even more miraculously (in my messy garage) found a bearing and the spring. The third bearing proved harder to find, and the only logical explanation was that it had disappeared down the 'great crack' in the garage floor. No amount of probing and digging and magnet poking into the crack located the bearing.

    A while later, I found it.:D

I lost a valve keeper for an O200 aircraft engine in the hem of my jeans for a while once, the end was turned up in one spot just enough to catch it.

This just might work. I was married to a goldsmith for 16 years, and when they dropped a diamond, they'd turn off all the lights and get a bright flashlight and sweep it around and look for the glints of light.

The thing about carpeting is it should not have rolled or bounced out of view. Kinda hard to clean up oil spills though..:huh

I'm down with the magnet trick, unless parts are brass or stainless steel.
