Hi all. I've got a customer bike here, a CB550 that's been, ummmm, customized let's say ... he needed some paint, some carb work, and some front brakes. Stock hose had a multitude of cracks, some of which were hidden by ELECTRICAL TAPE, so the whole two-part brake line is in the dumpster, and I've got a single braided stainless line running from the m/c to the caliper now. The bottom end of the stock brake line is joined to the caliper by a length of rigid tubing, which unfortunately was mangled during disassembly. A bit of poking around on the interweb revealed that someone had been good enough to list all the Dennis Kirk part numbers (I love Dennis Kirk) for this upgrade: http://www.jeff-cook.com/2008/11/brake-line-for-the-cb550/ I ordered the same pieces, excepting the brake line itself, which had to be longer in this case due to the extended forks on the bike. Customized, remember. The reason the bike isn't on the back of my truck heading back to the owner at this very moment is that the adapter fitting (p/n 19-1350) which screws into the caliper and accepts the brake line DOES NOT FIT. Threads are different. I'm just wondering whether anyone else here has run a b.s.s. line on a caliper of this type, and if so, where you got your parts from ... any advise, suggestions, or cruel comments welcome. Robb
Maybe I'm reading the DK part stuff wrong, but is the adapter 3/8" i.e. SAE threads? If I were to guess, I would guess that the Honda is all metric. Do you have any way to measure the threads? Just spitballin' here as I have no direct expirience with this. There is always the "wrong part" in the box causing problems too.
