Better ask her if she really wants to ride on the back of your bike before you go thru all the trouble
I all ready asked her and she said Yes. Beside I belive they sell helmets for dogs too. I see lots of guys with kids - why not a dog???
Altho she is only 15 lbs of muscle!!!!!!!!! You will probably hear more BullShit about taking your dog on a bike then you may wanta hear, so be prepared!!!!!!!!!!!!!:huh In my Case, I bought her some Doggles (Dog Goggles) and added a rear carrrier. The carrier has a mount that attatches to the rear of the bike so the carrier snaps on and off and acts as a cage if needed. It also has a restraint system to keep her inside along with many vents and roof rollback system, also included a rain cover. She LOVES IT! It's called a "Sport Wagon" they come from Europe. Email Mags Bags she sells them and she and her S.O. ride with their dog also. I would think a pointer would be a little on the big side. Add a chair and let it ride in the hack which is common. I am actually moving my mutt to the front in a tank bag which will be her riding spot. I see a guy who rides around my town on a drz400 with his small dog on a platform over his gas tank and the dog is tethered to him. Some other places to look are dog-bag.it the other one was pet tube??? Cant remember
I saw a guy and his little dog a while back, the dog had a little leather helmet and goggles too. No kidding, riding biatch, I even took a picture.
Let's try this in Equipment.. there's been a long running thread there with made for bikes dog cages.. Do a search or someone will post a link..
Thanks guys. I expected some heat and some honest answerswith this kind of question. But i wanted to know if there was someone else doing this.
Saw this guy up in Fairbanks over the summer....just thought it was hilarious how this dog was cool about it all.
We carry our Chihuahua all the time in a hard shelled dog carrier on the cooler of the Escapade trailer. We've been doing it for 5 years with no difficulties. The dog really likes to ride there. I've also photographed Mr. Cob with Spot in the Ural's sidecar out on the trail. He really likes to ride as well. Timmer
I took my dog for the first time on Thanksgiving...I just couldn't leave him home alone. He rode in a smaller crate tethered in with his leash on the way there. I rode one handed for 120 miles with a finger through his collar. On the way home my buddy Joe set us up with a bigger crate and a sweet lid he put together for us in about ten minutes. I felt better on the way home, I think Louie liked both ways.
Well first this guy has little concern with his own saftey; low cut shoes, fingerless gloves, open face helmet, and jeans. Why would he care about the dog? That is just my observation. The answer your question here are some leads on manufactured carriers check here or trailers from Open Road Outfitters
I guess that would put a true meaning to the T shirt "if you can read this the Bitch fell off" Seriously though, my Longhair Chihuahua has travelled thousands of km every summer with us. She is part of the experience. (and also my avtar)
You need to check out Rogue 1's most recent ride report. He's got his dachsund, Ludwig, with him the whole way, including a stint in Death Valley! Here's a good mirror shot of Ludwig:
I have no pictures, but my wife has a little minpin and I take it for rides from time to time. I just stick her in my jacket and leave it unzipped far enough so she can poke her head out. Not too many problems, but I wouldnt want to ride like that for very far.
Tbags makes a pet carrier. Also check this out www.dogsonbikes.com There are plenty of websites dedicated to this sort of thing. They even make little doggy helmets. I used to ride with my pup on my chest using a carrier specifically designed for it, but now he is too big When I got him they said he would remain small, I specifically wanted a small to medium dog just so I can take him with me on road trips.
Pets don't belong on a damn bike, they belong at home or in a kennel. WTF does anyone think will happen to the pet on the back of a bike when it goes down?! I have had many a rally/camp out ruined because some fool thinks bringing a pet along is fun, when most people have a pet and it is nothing special. Leave the pet behind!!! But then, that is just my opinion!
I'm sure bringing the pet along is plenty of fun for them and their pet. If pets bother you that much, you should probably consider a hotel room....or just stay home. To the original topic, I guess no one stumbled across this thread before posting here. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=261273
Do you think it would be better to have him not strapped to the bike just in case you laid it down? I don't have a dog (right now), but am dying to get one and go riding.
Did you do a search? I could swear there was a "Dogs on bikes" thread a little while back with lots of pics. It's possible I'm thinking of some different motorcycle forum, but I think it was here. Jamie
