Got a 2 week vacation coming up mid Aug. Time is crawling, but it'll get here...

We're riding a 650XChallange 2up and fairly decent riders. Ride almost everwhere in the Ozarks. We'rre able to handle a few rocks, but just a few. Wife is apt to walk thru the ruff spots...

We're camping at Eureka, NE of Silverton.

Many years ago, we've road most of the passes on an ATV. The problem is, I don't remember most. What passes/trails should we stay away from?? I do remember Poughkeepsie and I know not to head down it 2up.

Any others to be wary of????

Or here is a short list of what we'd like to do...

Ophir to Tulluride and back via Last Dollar Road
Cinnimon to Lake City and back over Stony Pass (not sure about Stony)
Ridgeway to Silver Jack Res and out N side. (Owl Creek Pass)
    Yankeey boy and back down.
Black Bear (??) Passenger walking the zigzag.
    Can we do Corkscrew/California???

Well I am not sure how much of a trooper your wife is, but my wife would not enjoy the west side of Ophir and it would be a bit of walk to where she might get back on the bike.

I cannot comment on the others.

Those with more skill than I perhaps. The west side is a bit steep with a scree field of stones. It was not technical, but there is no way my wife would have sat through that jostling on the back.

My wife and I just finished off a 2 week tour 2up on the SE, a week in Moab and a week in Ouray.
Eureka is a gorgeous spot to camp and very close to Animas Forks, a fascinating old mining town.
Passes we did were Engineer, Corkscrew, Hurricane, California, Alpine Plateau, Ophir, Imogene, Black Bear….but only to the turn around as my rear brake went on the descent. The challenging ones were Imogene and Black Bear, but are still very doable. My wife didn’t get off for any obstacle, although had we continued down BB, she would have walked the staircase. My wife's favorite was Corkscrew, a really fun twisty, up and down rollercoaster with great views :D

Rode most of these recently and here is my two cents:

    -No to BB
-There's a rough spot between Stony Pass and Rio Grand reservoir that she'll probably rather walk, but it's only a few hundred yards. Oh, and there's the Pole Creek crossing on the east side of Stony that had some larger under-water boulders that I wouldn't recommend with her on it (does she mind walking through the water?)
-Ophir is fine this year (saw a two-up triumph show coming down it a year ago, so you should be fine)
-If you're jetted for high altitude, Imogine will be OK but rough going up on the south side
-I recommend Bolan Pass - between Purgatory ski area and Lizardhead pass - for a enjoyable two-up ride
-Also, I'd do Lime Creek road, 'cause it's fun and just right for two

    Have fun!

There is some great info in this thread for all who ride 2up. I suggest this be made sticky and keep adding to it. Thanks all. I have ridden many of the passes 2up but certainly not done Ophir, Black Bear or some others mentioned.
