DR650 owners, whats your age?

I think I win as the youngest!

I sold mine last month to upgrade to an XR650R, but I bought my DR 650 when I was 15 (3 weeks before turning 16). I rode it for 9 months and then sold it to uprade to the xrr. All my friends make fun because its a dirtbike and some even say I should get a harley:huh

23yrs,but i was born in '67........just never grown up!

40, bought it when I was 38.

I'm 32 now and just got my second one six months ago. I got my first when I was 24ish.

57 now, I bought it several years ago just before I turned 55.

It took me six months of tweaking and experimenting to get it like I wanted it to ride the CDT in July 2010. Then I almost sold it last year but took one more ride and changed my mind.

I figure now to keep it until I get out of riding. In fact, given the around town fun factor of the DR and that my wife is no longer interested in riding, the Wing will go first.

39 when I bought my DR, I'm still 39....

I'm 52 bike is an 07 it's the daily ride, grocery get'er, etc...

37... I work at the local Ivy League college. A lot of the kids who have bikes on campus wave me down - then see me, and I can see the look of, "oh, another dual sport rider!" turn to "uh, old guy." Oh well, I still enjoy it. Some one asked me if it was a mid-life crisis bike, and I told them I was saving my mid life crisis for something much, much more stupid than a DR650

I'm a '52 model the DR is an '04.

Decided I needed one in 1996 when they changed to the current model. I was 35 then, with little kids and we just did dune quads under command of the Wife so I had to wait.

Bought my 03 DR in 2007. 51 now and loving it.

I was just thinking the same thing. I think the DR is one of those bikes that is bought because it works...not because it is cool. Keeps a lot of the under 30s people from buying one.

I look back at the cruisers and sport bikes I have owned and think: I could have owned several DRs and had WAY more fun....

Maybe not cool, but sort of a 'macho' thing? Im not really sure on this one either, and im under 30

My 1200 Bandit isnt the most flashy bike, but it is a great deal more comfortable than a sportbike and even faster in a straight line (isnt stock)- wont turn for shit though (weight, suspension). That said, I bought it mainly for that rush of acceleration, and secondly to do longer trips with. It rarely gets attention, most of my buddies who ride sport bikes give me shit, etc, so im not really sure about 'cool'. I have to say ive had more compliments and comments on the DR650 in the short time ive owned it then I have had for the Bandit the entire time Ive owned it.

I really think it boils down to 'conquering' a given environment- sportbikes conquer tracks and streets faster than any bike, while dirtbikes conquer dirt faster than any bike. The DR650 isnt the best at either. Men are heavily driven to 'conquer' everything around them- money, women, locations, other men (by dominating them, e.g. sports, fights, etc), and maybe thats why DRs arent really popular with the younger group. JMHO
