Sorry for the semi-jacked thread... North Central Washington State. Have a brother in Galena, OH.

I can ride 60 mph all day. It will hit 70 max but it seems a little fast for the engine.

I get 60 (+) mpg.

1200 miles is a long trip though...the best thing would be find one in a shop and sit on it to see how you like it.

Those new XT's look pretty sharp. It was my SO's favorite bike at this past years CycleWorld show, she had sat on it several times.
Probably be the next bike at some point in time when I have money.

I love the small displacement dual sports. I have a DR200 that my youngest son will soon be stealing from me and have been looking for a replacement adn cant decide between the XT250/CFR230L or going bigger and getting the DR200. What is the top speed of the XT? I am 230 LBS and just want to keep up with highway traffic when between dirt roads.

Sorry no photos but Locopostie's XT is set up just like my wife's. Same small shield and same water proof tail bag. I also made a small rack which I have bolted to the flat on the rear fender which gives a bit more room on the seat and stabilizes the load. I also changed the stock type tires for Avon Distenza's which really improved the ride and handling. We are still running the stock gearing so on the slab, it's good for about 72-75 mph. I am thinking of putting a 15t counter shaft sprocket on it which should drop the rpms at speed by about 500. However, it will likely also effect low speed or off road handling.

This past summer we did a 1800 mile light weight tour of Colorado and Utah. She on her '08 XT 250 and me on my '09 KLX250. I really like the larger gas tank on the XT. The KLX will only go about 70-75miles before reserve. Unlike the XT which will do at least 125miles. They are great little bike! In fact, I would rather have one of these for myself than my KLX. We just got back on Monday from a week of light weight touring. We did the length of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Shenandoha Natl Park.

Hey...how was the trip? I am planning to do that in the spring.

The BRP is a great ride. Sweeping vista's, smooth roads which curve on and on, lots of interesting things to stop and see from the Emerald mines around Little Switzerland, to the artsy shops and resturants of Blowing Rock to Civil War history out the butt in VA.

Although the Fall color was spectacular, if I was to do it again, I would not go in the fall. To many cagers and leaf peepers focusing more on the sights and not enough on their driving. We had several close calls. We did a similar trip in July and rode as far north as Ronoake, VA. We had the road almost to ourselves. That kind of surprised us as I had heard stories about how bad the traffic would be in the post July 4th weeks.

A couple of suggestions if you are going to do the trip. Make sure your ride has at least a 125mile range before going on reserve. Gas stops, especially at the south end are far and few between. Second, make sure to watch out for wildlife. My wife got hit in the head by a turkey which flew out of some bushes along the road. I had a near miss with a bear coming out of a blind corner.
