Bmw's are great bikes although they have their many problems, too many to even mention. God forbid you have too limp or trailer to the nearest dealer,it can be a day or two hike, and you should probably call ahead to be sure they haven't folded or gone tits down. But alas I love my RT still. Even though I have hanging from my garage ceiling a spare fd and 2 ESA shocks. I had a few Harley's ( clunk a d clunk ). Nice low and slow like fresh maple out the wooden spigot doing syrup duty in N Vermont. But I could never go back, even after swapping bikes with a buddy's new street glide I was counting the minutes before I could get off the low crawling beast. Harley's have made vast improvements, one was to finally copy the japs and merge the tranny and motor togeather. Damn that was a no brainer and only took them 30years to figure it out. Their still making vast improvements with the different models. Probably every model on the floor could be made with parts from any bike close by. Might have to change up a mirror or blinker to put it stock again. I had a great friend who got old and his legs went hobbit on him, he had to go back to a Harley and now he sits upright at most lights and stop signs. I do try not to laugh as it could easily happen to me. But this would indeed make me sad as I have given all my pirate clothes away and would hate to shave my egg shaped noggin bald And cover it with one of those doo rags. After all these years the RT stills makes me smile like the first time we connected. You go BMW except that ugly 1200c , that was one ugly motorbike. Sometimes those Harley folks say we don't wave. Well hell we got too many dam buttons to play with. As it should be. Sincerely Jim beam Sent from my iPhone
You sent that from a phone? But I too used to live in Vermont, drive a Harley and drop acid. Now I live in Malibu, drive a BMW and drink rosé. Clear?
Hey, I enjoyed this poster's rant. He sounds like an old guy like me. Good points made about both brands of bikes! Thanks for the laughs. Party on! Guess it is 5;00 somewhere at the bar!
What the hell do you mean? The 1200C is one damn good lookin motorcycle, better lookin than any damn Hardly...
Yes they are! Don't know why more weren't sold! Probably because of the exhaust sound, or lack of it. BMW won't make that mistake again, meaning trying to enter the cruiser market. They seem enamored by the scooter market now!
I'm not a cruiser man, but hot damn is that one of the ugliest stock cruisers I've seen in a long time (to me, subjective, yadda yadda). I saw one on a dealer floor a couple years ago and spent 20 minutes walking around it in utter disbelief.
Well, as the former owner of an LT and an RT, and current owner of an Electra Glide, I can say that my Harley has put the fun back in motorcycling for me. Not that I didn't like my LT and especially my RT, but neither one made me smile like my Harley. I know they aren't for everyone, but for me right now, I'm on the bike that makes me smile. Will I always ride Harley ? Maybe....but, maybe not. I could see myself back on a BMW someday. But, right now, I'm quite content with what I have.
Like what, for example ? Never have had a problem with my bikes other than the sucky Exide batteries that die without warning .
