I was going to have my stock aluminum engine guard on my F650GS sprayed with a black durable surface, the same product used in spray in bed liners. After reading and talking with dealers, I found that Line-X and other spray in bed liners might not be such a great option. First, there are not many products that stick well to aluminum. Second, it needs to be a product that can withstand heat from the exhaust pipes (very hot) and engine.

I am open to suggestions for an alternative spray on durable protective surface that will work well in this application. Thanks for your help, Puffy

If the real desire is to change color, go with engine or BBQ paint. Cheap, durable, and pretty much available anywhere (which means you can touch-up whenever).

I've been using Dupli-Color bedliner spray (which only looks like bedliner) and have been pretty impressed. I don't know what temp rating it has though, so if it gets really hot that may be an issue.
