    Gentlemen don't discuss those matters.
Like Bob Loblaw, I maintain a certain sense of decorum and chivalry.
    Unless brass poles are involved.:evil

Dunno about Hermasillo, but I can recommend Turkeycreek's place in Banamichi. Really nice place, great hosts... and the advantage of being closer to the border so no need for the early start/long run to Hermasillo. I crossed the border at Nogales at 11am, and was there by 4pm - including getting TVIP and a relaxed lunch.

Thanks for those comments. That is quite the RR by Milton Otto.
...probably a little TOO "off the beaten track" for us. :lol3

That was a true "Lewis and Clark" thing south of the border in a very desolate part of northern Mexico.

Milton played the part of the crazy scientist, a la the "Back to the Future" guy. It was he who came up with the idea to make that trek. He pushed for the expedition to happen.

JT played the part of the Pathfinder. He would not have gone out on his own. But with Milton's singular focus and "we can do this" resolve, JT was a go. Conversely, without JT's tracking skills, navigation skills and all of that, Milton might still be out there.

Nothing succeeds like success, and together, they succeeded. It was the perfect example of a moto trip into deep, backcountry Mexico where each part of the Team truly brought something invaluable to the trip dynamic. Such a dynamic, when it occurs, that is the aspect of moto travel in Mexico I personally most enjoy.

Anybody have experience with multiple entries to Mexico with the relatively new FMM tourist visa? With the old FMT, you could get 180 days, and come and go as you please, from the USA. At least that is what I did. The last time I went to Mexico, I struck up a conversation with a migracion worker, ans he said the new FMM is single entry, and you must return it when you leave the country, regardless if you are coming back before its' expiration. Also the TVIP is only good if you have a valid FMM, so the TVIP is automatically void when you turn in the FMM, whether you cancel it or not. My spanish isn't great, but this is what I got out of it.

I have done a little poking around on the web, and found a couple of articles that back this up, but they were from visa assistance companies, not the official word. Does anyone know where to get the "definitive" word?

Of course, Mexico doesn't really control it's borders, so you could exit and come back without cancelling either, and no one would be the wiser, but I like to do things by the book if there is no reason not to. It will get expensive to go to say Guatemala, if you have to cancel the Mexico stuff and buy new permits on the way back. Come to think of it, Guatemala aduana asked to see my cancelled MExico TVIP as part of the procedure for getting A Guatemalan TVIP.

My last trip, I paid Mexico MX$295 for my tourist card, and US$254 for my bike permit, of which US$202 was refunded on exit. At $52 for a TVIP and ~$23 for a tourist card it is getting expensive to go to Mexico, especially if you have to cancel and reapply every time you exit the country.

Kind of long winded, but I guess I am really asking if anyone has a contact to get the real story.

Too bad it would have been great to have some Rosti Pollo with you.

I ran into a big group of riders in Creel who you showed around Durango.
It sounds like the dirt route to Parrel you turned them on to was a good
    ride.
I'd like to ride it next time I'm around these parts.

We're on our way to Chile and if things work out I'll be riding back in
    April.

Have a fun timw with La Familia over the holidays.

    Thanks, Miguelito, for the info.
Are you referring to the road between H. del Parral and Creel that looks to be Ch23?
Is there a RR or vid of that route? And is that the one in the news lately with the roadblock? Still waiting on the arrival of some better maps. I find Google maps tough for planning as there's little detail until you are zoomed in so far there is no sense of scale.

The new style Tourist Card introduced a year or two ago is good for
Multiple entries and exits across the USA border . I did that this year ,
returnIng within its valid time , never had a problem even after canceling the TVIP
because I intended to come back to Mexico with a different vehicle.
If you exit Mexico to Guatemala and Belize the Mexican customs are unavoidable
and they will ask you to hand in the Tourist Card and get an exit ( Salida) stamp
in your passport . But if you intend to turn around and travel back through Mexico
to the USA before your TVIP expires you DO NOT NEED TO CANCEL THE TVIP.
    before you enter Central America
This saves you and BANJERCITO the bother of refunding the Security Deposit plu s
you avoid the cost of buying a new TVIP for the return trip .
At the norther border with the USA you can simply pass through the inland
Aduana terminal and NOBODY WILL DEMAND that you hand in or cancel
ANYTHING . You are expected to know enough. Same at the actual border, you can
ride straight into the US Customs . Only the bridge toll booth will stop you.
You are free to keep your documents in effect until the day they expire.
But on or before that day you must visit the Mexcan customs office at ANY border
crossing to cancel the TVIP AND YOUR TOURIST CARD. You must bring the exact same
vehicle as is described on the TVIP .if you cannot present that same vehicle
you can not cancel the TVIP
If you are late you can kiss your refundable Securiy Deposit goodbye
    Got that?
