how long is the uni air filter good for provided its cleaned and re-oiled every 5000km? i have about 15000km on it now. headed into africa in another month & expect to suck a lot more dust..
A long time! if you maintain the filter and squeeze any excess oil rather than ring it it wont seperate the foam where they are glued... there is no reason you wont get alot of klm.. pending conditions as well. they are a great filter.. Fark K & N..
To save you folks from alot of mucking around. you can remove your cleaner, wash it, rinse it, dry it and have it reoiled an put back in in less than 20 minutes on your F8GS.. I do!, heres how, with the help of Motorex my life is simple! This stuff is awesome.. no more mineral Turps! UNI USA specifies letting their foam filters dry completely before oiling: http://www.unifilter.com/maintenance.html Roger at UNI USA told me that if you apply the oil while the faom is still wet or damp, the oil won't adhere or "stick" to the wet or damp areas. Later on when everything dries you'll have spots within the filter media that are oil-less. I let mine dry completely. Another reason why I like the fact that UNI USA's filter is $35. I can buy two of them and run one while the other is drying!
I put about 15000 kms on my last UNI (although in 2 years...) and it was as good as new when the bike went... I followed their maintenance to a 'T'.
I always did mine when done at night with my old bike. In the morning it was always dry. The Nighthawk was a 'bit' easier to get at though, pop one cover, and three screws... oil it, pop it in and go!
Compressed air is a wonderful thing... i have never had any problems with oil seperation on any filter. if it was dripping wet then yer fair enough.
I thought this thread said OIL FILTER, not Air Filter... anyway I found a replacement OIL FILTER for about 1/3 of the BMW price: HIFLOWFILTRO Premium Oil Filter - HF164. Perfect replacement. $9.00 order from any car parts store - or motorcycle store (except BMW). TheCowboy
Has anybody messed around with the GUGLAtech filters? https://bestrestproducts.com/product-category/guglatech-fuel-and-air-filters/
Hmmm If I can get one in Oz without paying a million dollars postage I might consider seeing as it is reusable.
I heard about the guglatech filters from this podcast: https://adventureriderradio.com/adv...at-you-dont-know-about-motorcycle-air-filters turns out there's a thread here on ADVRider as well. https://advrider.com/f/threads/guglatech-revolutionary-ultra-4-air-filters-for-motorcycles.1279607/ Of course they talked about restrictiveness of the filter ... they also talked about the maximum sized particle that will pass thru the filter. Guglatech claims 30-40 micron. I looked on both the K&N and the Uniflow websites and could not find any specification / claim for minimum particle size filtered out ....
I have had it in from after the first service. The original Unifilter died and was replaced with a new one. I have one oiled and bagged as a spare. I thought the Guglatech might be an option to carry as a spare on longer multiple day rides as the oiled filters are a little messy. I know I could carry disposable gloves but I like my man hands Anyway the postage from BestRest is $25 US which at the mo' is nearly $36AUD. I will put up with oily hands at that postage cost.
Have you looked at https://guglatech.it/en/ to order directly or to see if there is another distributor. BestRest is where I got mine but I'm 20 minutes from them here. BestRest is the North American Distributor but I'm sure they have others.
