This is what I'm talking about. I can see myself not "needing" coffee when I'm on the bike. But I haven't tried it yet. It's good to hear that there are so many ways people deal with this!

I can't wait to start seeing what works! Maybe, I'll drink a cup, then a shot of espresso, fill my camelbak, and have a cup to warm up after I get there! That outta do it! I don't need caffine at all! :slurp

    Just kidding!

Actually it's really warming up, right now it's 40F, I just got back from a little cruise around town, and it was really nice. 40F @ 70mph is another story. It's good I've got enough layers to camp in January!! I'm good for it as long as the roads don't ice up.:flush

Drink before leaving. Drink after arriving. I _think_ you'll find the morning ride is better than coffee and the afternoon ride home is a great relaxer. I'm a much nicer person when I can commute on the bike vs the cage.

The ride in will be FAR more stimulating than kawfee.

After a while the adrenalin will wear off and you'll want a few cups.
If your thermos sounds like it's filled with ICE COFFEE, throw it in the trash and sneak out to buy a cup.

Buy a stainless steel thermos on the way home so you won't be all pissed off tomorrow. I went through several cheap glass-lined thermoses before I got sick of having a shitty morning and bought a shock-proof SS java bucket.

"I'm picking out a thermos for you . . . and a rectal thermometer" Steve Martin :rofl

Just enough for one good cup. And not too big to ask the barista to fill!:1drink

I wait until I get to the office, but funny that this topic comes up just a couple of days after I observed an old geezer on a well-used old Honda CX "Silver Wing" drinking coffee on the fly. He had his extra-large F*ckin' Gonuts coffee cup stuck down into a fairing pocket and every so often he'd flip the lid up and bend down a take a quick sip. Don't ask me what happened when he leaned 'er way over. I shared a lane with him for a few blocks and then thought about what would happen if he spilled some 200 degree coffee on his lap (I also wasn't too crazy about him taking his eyes off the road to drink) so I got away from him.

Unless you turn in really quickly or hang-off like mad the drink won't spill at all when turning a motorcycle no matter how hard you turn or how far you lean (think aobut it, same thing that keeps you from falling over keeps the drink from spilling). Now bumps, acceleration or deceleration etc could be a problem:)

admit you are addicted,,or a dickhead,,give up your personal reliance to artificial stimulants to start your meaningless day! show some sack and get some meth! it's all the rage, ,,and makes coffee a vice for pussies! speed freaks in any form are still addicts,,more time is wasted per capita waiting for the coffee to get done than it took to build the shpinx,,daily!:lol3

Coffee drinkers act a lot like crankers!

Funny how they never seem to be very motivated either

I'd say going to 270 different drug stores for 2 boxes of pseudophed each just so you can get your next fix is pretty motivated...:evil Of course, I'd need some coffee before I could get my ass out the door to get the first 2 boxes.

I usually put my coffee mug in trunk, surrounded by whatever is in there (rain jacket, etc) to keep it upright. I'm only 5 miles from work though.

In the five day work week I'll usually bike three times and drive my car (when I need to wear a suit) twice. I usally get to work by 6:30 a.m. and, on those days, I don't drink coffee until I make it at work. When I drive my car I'll ocassionally have a large Starbucks during the drive.

Every couple of weeks I'll come in around 10:00 and by then I'll have had a few cups before I leave. Today, for example, I came in at 10:00 and had a couple of cups before I left, then poured the rest in a thermos which I tossed in a saddlebag and continued drinking it at work.

i have a couple of cups at the house and then make a pot when i get to the restaurant.

i drink a cup in the afternoon too.when i worked at the boat store,i would pull into a convience store and fix a cup and put a lid on it,stuff the sip hole with a napkin, and get an extra napkin.put the whole works in a little paper bag they keep by the register(whatever they are for,and people are worried about coffee drinkers on the road)then stand it in the saddle bag and roll, trying to avoid bumps.then discard the slightly saturated brown bag.
it pays to get the taller cup and slack fill it.
noe coffee on the road,i fill a 12oz and grab a couple of cubes of ice out of the beer cooler by the counter, drink then roll.

I run straight distilled water in my cooling system, and rigged up a little valve on the left hose clamp that pressurizes a brass cup with a screen in it and a screw on lid that has a nipple on it. The nipple has a pipette clamped to it than runs to a cooling coil of stainless tubing that in turn has a vinyl tube clamped to it. It's like a hot espresso camelback, I just reach down, flip the valve, wait until the perfectly hot but not too hot brew hits my throat, and flip the valve back off. It's just like flipping to reserve, I never even need to take my eyes off the road. I do need to refill my radiator twice a week.

Actually, I've got my coffee addiction down to one cup in the morning. I get up early enough to drink it and deal with the consequences before my shower.

    Mmm...coffee....

Actually, I've been commuting to work almost every day since January, but I never drink coffee before (or during) my ride. We have coffee fund at work and I partake there as it is an informal ritual among the crew. In truth, it is at the coffee pot where all of our plans for the day and major plans ahead come out and get discussed, so there really is function to it. During the really cold months I may have more throughout the day, but I typically drink water almost to the exclusion of everything else save a beer or two on Friday evenings.

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.
It is by the juice of java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shakes, the shakes become a warning.

:eek2 you have a 220 mile commute? You must have one hell of a job to make it worthwhile.
