Greetings! I'm closing in on a '71 R75/5. Hopefully, soon. Not my first bike but first beemer. I've always wanted to own one though.

Just wanted to share the pics to get feedback. Not much service history available unfortunately. 30K miles on her. Forks rebuilt. Currently has a charging problem. Current owner has replaced the regulator and will be replacing the diode board as well.

Shocks looks like it will need to be replaced so I'm going to replace with Hagons. I don't want to spend too much and start slowly. Low Euro bars, shorter cable kit, new grips. That's pretty much it as far as mods go. Maybe switch to LEDs to lighten the load on the electrical system.

Also, will probably change all the oils, replace oil and air filter and start using her as a daily city commuter bike. Not long distance and won't push her to the limits so hopefully, the dreaded wobble won't rear its ugly head.

Looks good. Needs a set of cigars though.

The lower bars would also be a good thing.
    Getting this from Tim?

Looks like a clean machine. Just a little TLC is all she needs...and maybe a set of S bars.

Indeed. It looks to be in good shape and will be seeing it in person over the weekend. S bars, do you mean R90S bars?

That's a fine specimen. I appreciate the stock look but I'm not a purist as long as mods are tastefully done.

Yup, thanks for letting me pick your brain Tim.

Yes, R90S-style bars. They are lower and maybe a bit more narrow. Very comfortable and stylish :evil Although you may like the higher bars just fine. The European models came stock with them and the American units had the higher bars. I did this with an R75/6 and it's been a while but I'm pretty sure I had to get shorter control cables to accommodate them.

Looks like a nice bike man! Don't sell her short, once you get the feel for the old machine you will gain much appreciation. You will want to ride her far and wide, welcome to the club! :freaky

There are 3 sets of stock bars for the /6 that would be good, from the R90s to the RT, the medium is about the best, but the other guys are right looks way cool with S bars.
The silencers look strange only because it's a swb frame with lwb silencers on

Got it. I've been checking the different versions of the lower bars. The RS bars seem taller than the "low euro" bar. Still undecided which of the two I should go with. Probably will come down to what's available or cheaper on the flea market or elsewhere. I've used a set of Renthal Ultralow bars on my RZ350 and was quite pleased with the stance.

Thank you for the kind words sir! Planning on using her as a daily driver in the city. Should be fun.

Hmm. Not sure which pic you're referring to. I do know that the exhaust is not stock on the bike. I don't mind it though. Probably something to change at a later time if I do run into a set. The bike will be a daily rider and will not be entering any bike shows so it doesn't have to perfect.

Wow, I didn't even notice that.

That was why I mentioned the cigars. They're a tad shorter and don't stick out so far to the rear as later mufflers do. It's a little more balanced look with the cigars to my eye anyhow.

or one could just Sawzall and re-weld.. :) it looks like 2 inches shorter would still be too long.

Quick jaunt up to the ski hill. I need a way to carry skis on the old beast. An idea involving some large diameter pvc tubing is brewing in my head.

Is that a Trucklite LED headlight? If yes: do you have a close-up pic from the housing?
