no way, Skibum! you will not get rid of me that easy whenever you come down here... I'm still waiting for you, just on a different ride. Besides that, now I need someone who help me to lift the big beast whenever she decides to take a nap I will miss my mighty 640 on that one... .
Thanks, Mike. I totally agree with you. Would it be possible KTM is planning something we don't see coming...? :huh It's hard for me to imagine KTM is so far away from the needs of its customers... .
I always hear rumors but never anything more. For now I plan to run my 640 and 950 as long as they can survive. The 640 has 24k miles on it and she may not run or look like new but she sure beats a KLR! The 950 has recently turn over 100K+ kilos (61k miles).
This fairing was made by Pete640 . You can contact him, he used to have one for sale, I think he sold it but you could try ... Other than that, I made my own high rise version, I could help you out with this if you like the one below.
Thank you for your input! Did you make it out of the "older" version of ADV fairing - two pieces one? I've got the newer one and don't want to cut it... :eek1
I did not cut mine either I bought an older style fairing from ebay.de They come on sale from time to time so you better watch there. Then I made another upper part to my specs from polycarbonate. I bet you could kill somebody if you hit him with it ... Next stop to make one out of CF
Hello all. Finally broke down and registered here today. Spent the last 5 years mostly active on BadWeatherBikers forum for my Buell Ulysses, and before that on the ealier days at KTMTalk. Fell back in love with my '01 640 LC4 (no, not an Adventure, but this seemed the closest fit here) on Saturday, after taking it to SC for some OHV Trails there. I had avoided rough stuff for years since my forks seemed pathetic and I was spending my time/money on the Buell. Now that ALL 3 of my bikes are obsolete, and Buell closed, the KTM can come back into vogue. Got my forks fixed (Cogent Dynamics), and he has brought the beast back to life off-road. Had a great time on the trails and it almost felt like I was back on 1 of my old enduro bikes (almost). Glad I never sold it. I bought it new in 2001 on a killer late season sale, and never regretted it. Also have all the fun stuff to make it the SM version when the mood strikes. Need to search the site for some other suspension set up suggestions now!
Always good to have friends around when your bike gets sleepy. I'm contemplating trying to get down that way chasing the Iron Butt Assoc. Lighthouse Challenge Tour: http://www.ironbutt.com/lighthouse/
Wow...! those in Iron Butt Assoc are some piece of work, aren't they..? I read the Intro for the Lighthouse Challenge Tour and it's so funny. And is the LCT a real challenge? nice idea if so... So you are coming down here to conquer the World's End Lighthouse? Ok, let me tell you that if you reach it riding, the IBA will really give you the first prize! (post mortem counts? ) You will need pics of your quest, so... I should ride with you to Ushuaia .
Must have missed your original post on the subject. I have a set of spacers available that lowers a 640 with USD forks 2" and cut down front springs. The spacers are installed inside the forks and shock to shorten them (not fully extend). If someone wants to pay the shipping, they are welcome to them. Best installed when you need your suspension rebuilt.
Are the springs OEM or are they are heavier weight springs. I would be interested if they are heavier wt. cut downs...I realize cutting OEM makes a heavier spring but I need more. bill
The previous owner was a 140 lb flyweight so I doubt it. The plus side, if the spring is cut, it automatically increases the rate since there are less coils to compress to move the same distance
