What are you doing with the old motor? Is it being rebuilt? It'd be cool to build up and put in a sand rail or some other goofy shit. Cool bus.

Sounds like a rod knock. My Ulysses was doing that under the same conditions. It was #2 cylinder rod.

that's pretty cool man I think you're doing the right thing given the high prices these beauties will fetch, you coulda rebuilt it I guess but probably more expensive that buying a ready one
any recollection of how long it took to pull the lump out?

a1fa, cool bus........careful with your fuel injection parts and electronics, they are getting harder and harder to find and replace. I have a '78 F/I Vert I'm working on (interior at this point) and have had to scour the earth a time or two! :rofl

I'll race you when your done! :freaky

Fun project , and will be following along . I may be out of the loop and out of date but on all earlier VW air cooled engines there was a viscosity valve that opened when the oil got warm . To let it go through the cooler . The valve WOULD NOT OPEN if you used anything other than straight weight oil . Maybe newer ones don't have that anymore ? Saw several engines die from that when owner had oil changed to 10-30 or 10-40 at a gas station , including one porsche engined bus . Somebody school me on the subject please .
