I would like to thank all the old time dirt bike riders for making all the cool trails we ride. You didn't use garden tools to make trails, you didn't get harassed by anyone. You just rode your motorbikes. Thank you for doing this. And a BIG FUCK YOU to the government for regulating our freedom to enjoy ourselves and our world.

What the hell I'll bump it.

The old timers realy did a good job and I will ride their trails as long as I can, hopefully till I'm a old timer.

    They did use chainsaws though.

There's no rule saying new trails cant be built today, there are many people doing so. Maybe 10% of those who ride trails will help fix or build them.

Rather then thank an old timer consider helping to keep trails open.:1drink

Peter, didn't someone call you an old timer awhile back?:lol3 I think it's the grey beard.:1drink

We just built two miles of new trail last December in Sequoia....many more miles are maintained every year thanks to Chris Horgan and the Stewards of the Sequoia.

And we are still building and maintaining trails over here on the eastern side....

I am betting that wherever you live/ride there is a group out there doing this work. They just might not be advertising it....Find 'em and pitch in.

    And thanks for raising this!

Maybe not on private property, but there sure is on Federal land such as US Forest. I did an internship with the Forest Service, and part of my work was to catalog and rate each trail in an OHV area.

Creating new trails, or going off trail, is a ticket-able offense. Trails not part of the designated system are blocked with boulders or downed trees, and signed as closed to motorized vehicles.

I would just note that there is a lot of variation in the way the FS regulations are applied from forest to forest. Lot of trails neither closed nor designated open. I would emphasize maintenance and restoration as opposed to building.

Creating new trails on FS or BLM land is possible...
You either have to get permission and work their process.
    or
    not get caught

I go the permission route personally, but understand why others do not.

I agree. Playing 100% by the rules just gives you a good view of the loss of established trails--even the ones you have worked on in cooperation with the Forest Service. Been there, experienced that...

Those were some big bad hills and trails were the coolest in the 70s. Such a tragedy, it went away. Terrible. Thanks to whoever was responsible for it being there in my youth. RIP Green Hill. It was so lush and green and thick river bottom forest; I think the natives made it.
