    Rad needs some help...
Are there any sensor wizards out there reading about the hairball plan that could lend some insight?

I am laying out the ABS sensor bracket to allow keeping the ABS on the YZ conversion and wanted to make it from steel. With steel it would be a tougher bracket and easier to make. A small piece of sheet metal with a few holes, a few bends with a weld or 2. Its just easier in steel...

My thoughts are that the sensor should be sufficiently shielded so this steel wouldn't be an issues...but? I know enough to be dangerous but not comfortable with that decision.

Question #1 Will this limited amount of steel affect the ABS sensor?
Queston #2 Any non-ABS fans have a sensor you discarded that you could send to me to mock up the bracket? To be returned of course.

    Thanks,

    RAD

These types of sensors are damn near immune to an EMP from a nuclear blast. In order to get EU certified the bike is bombarded with EMF and all the systems on the bike must pull through and continue to function without issue. The sensors for safety systems like ABS are especially crucial.

My bike has the Touratech/WP forks on it and the ABS sensor is mounted in a steel bracket welded to the wheel spacer.

    Its time to Build em

We are ordering materials on Monday and will be starting the build this coming weekend and trying to wrap it up the weekend after that. I will ship the same day I get the parts.

    Pricing Notes:

PayPal is 3% plus freight. PP address and email is - jdradman@earthlink.net
    shipping is to 63122

    1. I will pick up PP and Fright for all US shipments for $400 even for the Axle and hanger
    2. Or send me an email with your shipping address and I will calculate actual freight . I will send you a return e-mail with total and my home address. Then you can send me a check for the full amount and I will ship as soon as it clears. That shouldn't create much of a delay since we can get going Monday and its likely to be about 2 weeks before we ship.
Option 2 will save about 11 bucks per set and freight is what it is?
We are ordering materials and building for everyone on the list above.

    Thanks,

    Rad

    Good photo...
Looks like he is using a ICO or IMO computer with that pick up on the bottom. Could be Chris Click or Clickster ? He had a GS that was totally tricked out with all the Rallye gear a few years back.

When I was in the market, I looked at a F650RR. It had a second bracket for the ICO.

ok, the next problem to tackle is the brake line, especially for those of us with ABS.

since i have a regular GS (but not for long :evil ) i measured the front line from the ABS unit to the caliper and it's roughly 26". way too short for the new forks. now here's the question, for those of us that want to keep ABS, how long should the new lower brake line be? i was thinking 36" so i could get fancy with the routing. too long?

i just called GALFER (check their PDF catalogue here: http://www.galferusa.com/VIP/Galfer Catalog.pdf ) and they have what is called a universal kit. basically, you can get ANY length brake line and any banjo fitting for about 56.00. DOT approved, and any color you want. i'm waiting for their brake line specialist to call me back so i can ask him a few more questions.

for anyone that has already done this and retained ABS, how long is your line?

and for those of you who are about to do this and do NOT have ABS, i have a Galfer "CR Style" front brake line that is roughly 50" that i'll sell to you for a good price (pictured below).

definitely a nice setup, but it's for an 04+ YZ so will be for 48mm forks as opposed to the 46mm we're all using.

also, i don't know how the design of the 48mm forks differs, so there may be the possibility that Rads axle and bracket MAY not work with them. it could work, but so far nobody has tried it yet.

plus Rad also mentioned that the 48mm forks are more desirable amongst the MX guys, so they're selling their 46mm forks CHEAP to buy the 48mm forks, making 48mm forks more "desirable", and more expensive.

you probably didn't want to hear all that, did you. :lol3

And just to add a bit more...I looked at aftermarket triples and there may be an issue with the way they are rotating the clamping bolts. The reason they are rotating them is because it is a stronger piece with the clamp in that position. The potential problem is with the fit between the protruding bolt heads and the extra metal in that position.

I am not sure that they won't work...just not sure that they will (once you get the 46mm clamps to match your forks) Radiators and upper faring issues may bite you? But yea, they are cool kit for sure.

Now I did talk to IMIG about making a custom triples with the key/fork lock bracket and they would run us between $800 and $1,100 per set . A 6 piece minimum helps with the price but I wasn't ready to write that check just yet.

Is anybody seriously interested in that right now?

I have a set of those 46mm Universal triples that I got off E-bay for $50 bucks brand new in a nicely padded metal can. They look realy nice and strong, comes with different mounting options for handlebar offsets. One of the good part is the number plate mounting tabs can be unbolted instead of shaving them off like the stock lower triple on a YZ.

I haven't had the chance to fit them on yet since I'm still waiting for RAD's parts before I rip the bike appart. So I guess we'll see how they fit then, but by looking at them I don't foresee too many issues. But for $50 bucks!!! Can't go wrong I think :thumb

If this setup winds up costing like the TT kit, it sort of defeats one of the main purposes of cobbling this thing together, IMHO. Another thousand bucks just isn't justifiable.
