Yea it's a tough crowd around here. Some of those other guys are pretty brutal. Have a nice ride and enjoy your time with the wife. , brown eye, most any motorcycle oil will work in any motorcycle engine regardless of weight. Just make sure it's ok for wet clutches.

Don't get hung up...we have a whole tiger thread in beasts for this stuff. Most of them aren't reading the west thread since they're all over the world. That's what I meant, just sayin'.

What type of oil is everyone putting in their 800xc, synthetic?

Yep. I used Shell Advance Ultra for my last change. More likely to still be in good condition for the full 6K miles.

Enjoyed that because Ive been in similar situations on my XC. Your video made me realize that a Tiger spinning in the snow sounds exactly like like my blender on the purée setting.

That's what happens when you pussy foot around and basically stop in front of an obstacle on mud and snow and road tyres.. He could have gotten some forward motion to carry him through most of that in 60 seconds...

But hey, we all learned about the limits of road tyres the hard way I guess... I know I did...

Next time I won't be stopping to assess the situation. (pussy foot around as you say)
I stopped short and in my mind I was thinking; this is my first time off the tarmac, this is a big heavy bike, these are essentially road tyres, oh and that mud look slippy, I am miles from anywhere, the fuel light is on, and I am on my own (everyone else decided to go to the pub, still not sure who had the best idea).
Ah well, not turning round for a small patch of mud... I dont know what made me think that the heavily cambered, really slippy centre of the road would be a good idea... I soon slipped off that into the car wheel rut and crashed into the grass bank at the side. A very slow speed fall.
After picking it back up, stopping to take the photos first of course, the hard packed gravel that was a bit unsettling for the first time, seemed like a walk in the park by comparison to the muddy hole I had just fallen off in. I relaxed into the rest of the ride and my speed slowly increased, and with it came a level of stability, and I was able to relax even more.
I am hooked, can't wait to find some more byways to fall off on again.

I am not real sure at this stage. The Tiger sold really quickly and in hindsight I may not have thought it through sufficiently. I am pleased that it has gone to a good home though. I was looking to pick up one of the last KTM 990 R's but couldn't commit so so I am still on the fence.

Been doing some more trail riding lately with my mate on our DRZ's and it has been a lot of fun.

Also spent a bit of time testing and photographing the KTM 1190 Adventure and Yamaha Super Tenere for the new Adventure Rider Magazine. Both great bikes and we are definitely spoilt for choice these days.

To keep things on track though I have a couple of Triumph photo's from the Victorian High Country a couple of weeks ago.

If it helps you get another T800XC, the British MCN had an adventure bikes supplement this week and they rated the 800XC as; "the best all round adventure bike in the world". And that included all those new fancy KTM, Yamaha, BMW gadgets.
