Thanks for the reply. This is an 07 so it has the full Ultegra group, which is nice. I'm looking at it today after work. I'm not planning on doing much real long distance right now. There are a great number of dirt roads and rail trails that I can explore better on a cross bike I think than my mt bike. I've always been mroe of a "roadie" any way.
the vast majority of American bicycles have neither racks nor fenders, as they are used for recreation and/or exercise. In Europe you see very few full out road racing bikes OR mountain bikes, far more basic transportation bikes.
When I was in college I carried the rack, (now installed on my mountain bike/truck, and these same bags full of engineering books) on my commute 26 miles form my home out by the foothills down the hill into Denver. And then I'd slide one of those kid seats on and take my oldest daughter for a spin when I needed more work in my legs. My racing bike did not have lugs, (silly French bike), but that never stopped me from using it like a car. My earlier Mirage, had full lugs and cheesey components to match the stamped dropouts, and waterpipe frame tubes. (1080)...
the screw holes for attaching racks, fenders. re: racks-n-fenders, my old Frenchie, a 1975 Motobecane Grand Record touring bike, nearly always had a blackburn rack, and I mounted fenders every winter (out on the left coast here, once it stops raining in late spring, it doesn't rain again until the following winter). But, I didn't own a car 'til I was nearly 30, I commuted by bicycle for years and years.
No. Those are eyelets. A lugged bike is one that's constructed by fitting the tubes into parts called 'lugs' that reinforce the joints and allow joining via brazing rather than welding. Here's a wikipedia article on it.
thats true, but another definition of 'lug' is... an ear-like projection. And in electronics, a lug is a screwhole used to attach a terminal.
Stem fixing, Crack running across the internal clamp. Screw threads of the clamp bolt are stripped. There is a crack beginning on the stem itself but I'll have to get a picture of that in daylight. All the parts in a pile, And getting finished, ugly but it is going to work, With the bar tape and a waterbottle the damages came to about $84. Not terrible. And it will work.
I *het* that kinda clamp, the conical plug in the split tube. the wedge block design (as on the right adapter) is much easier to deal with. yeah, I realize thats not the piece that cracked, rather, it was the part that clamped the bars. Whichever, totally slather on the grease on the part of the stem that goes into the steering tube
