I looked, couldn't find one. Gotta think this bitchen continent muncher needs it's own thread on ADV. I'll begin. My 2005 pre-farkling. Post. Gadgetry. Okay, your turn. Post a pic, wax poetic, talk about your favorite farkle, WTF ever.
OK, I'll chip in. I picked up an '08 in May and now have 9300 miles on it. Great bike, i rode from the midwest to the west coast. Lots of 400-600 mile days plus an 850 and a 980 miler. The fjr never blinked. The only farkles so far are a Throttlemeister and a Cee-Bailey+2+2. I may add a set of slipons and a top box in the spring. Before After During
Non-ABS. Bought it in April with 47K miles on it. It's now up to 56K miles. Givi hard bag. Audiovox cruise control. StarCom1 Advance. Sirius Stiletto II. Rapid Transit magnetic tank bag. Zumo 550. Givi flip windshield in these pictures. Just put on a Vstream. Heli risers. At a gas stop. On a dirt road. Outside the drag strip. At the Horse Shoe. At a winery on Lake Seneca, NY. Outside the race track. The fog slowly burning off... Lined up in the parking lot at the New River Gorge viewing area. FUN roads in West Virginia! Scenic pull-over spot in WV. Loaded up and ready to rock 'N roll! View from above. Getting ready for a group ride. On the group ride on a chilly, foggy morning. Having fun through the tight twisties and faster sweepers. GROUP PICTURE!!!! We sure have seen these jokers a lot!!
Nice! I am so looking forward to a real ADVenture on my FJR. (I've just done a quicky 700 miler to Denver.) It's really an astonishingly capable distant exploration machine. Was that at WFO? Thanks for the pix, folks!
Picked up a used '04 for cheap ( previous owner had fumbled it in his garage, scratching the fairing minorly) shipped it us to San Diego in June, rode it to San Francisco shortly thereafter. Went back in mid Sept and rode it from my buddy's place in Oakland to Philly. No big thing. Day after I left it in another buddy's care he calls me stranded from some strip-mall where he's gone on errands ( I'm home in Honolulu at this point, completely unable to help) - the bike is DEAD - turns out the (rather well-documented) hot lead to the ignition broke off right at it's soldier connection. Nice.
Glad you're liking yours so far Tyll. I'm impressed with the setup you've done on yours too. I've put about 15,000 miles on mine in the last 3.5 months. Tremendous at so many things from local canyon rides to covering half the country in a weekend.
Rather than pics of my former FJR, how about these AP images of Pres Sarkozy? It seems the French do have good taste... Jeff
Since April, we have done a 500+ mile overnighter to SW Pennsylvania, 1200 miler to the Finger Lakes and back over Labor Day weekend (2 nights), 1100 miler to West Virginia and back for EOM (3 nights), 600 mile 2-nighter to my dad's in Louisville, 500-or-so miler to the Detroit area to visit friends... And we're looking to do more in '09!! Our longest single day was 550 miles coming home from around Watkins Glen, NY, back to Columbus. The 550 miles took us 12 hours, but the first 300 miles took 9 hours 'since we were on all back roads. That was at EOM in Lewisburg, WV. That trip was utterly fantastic. Here's another one from there that I kinda like:
I did a round trip from Florida to Alabama last week end. 1,366 miles, tried out my new sargent seat and camera mount. I've added just about everything I want to. Throttlemeister, grip puppies, throttle rocker, big screen, bag covers, wild bills pegs, givi top box, ram mounts, reflective decals, FZ1 mirrors, GPS, head light guards, tank protector........ And more I can't remember :huh
I would have to say that my Russell seat was the best addition to my FJR, next in line would be the Wild Bill Highway pegs. After testing of windshields I've settled on the V-Stream with Rifles tuning block. For some reason I have noticed the bars buzzing like never before and I'm rolling up on 25K. Perhaps a valve adj. is in order?
Forgot about my newest fark, a Garauld rack. Also running a Escort 9500i on the L/H, Garmin276c on the R/H hyd.reserviors. Maddco thottle lock, D&D risers and Uni Filter, everything else is stock with a Barbarian twist.
I have one of Garauld's powder coated rack and pillion backrest too, very nice pieces. That and some Powerlet plugs (2 rear, 1 front) are about all I've done. Lighting is going to get upgraded, and I might go +2 on the screen, for the wife's comfort. Berthoud Pass Rocky Mtn Nat'l Park Between Creede and Lake City
Speaking of which, you and I are just about the right distance apart to have a late lunch together in Kaycee Wyoming one of these nice summer days when there's 18 hours of sunlight. Thanks for that cool pic, Jeff! One of my favorite farkles so far. Sorry, what's the tuning block? Still riding to work everyday. crossed Gonna snow hard sometime soon.
With Rifles windshield you get a tuning block that tilts the screen back 15 degrees. http://www.rifle.com/stores/showdetl.cfm?&DID=9&Product_ID=2222&CATID=9&Product=Yamaha%20FJR%201300%20Tunable%20Replacement%20Windshield%20%28%2701%2D%2705%29&Motorcycle=2005-Yamaha-FJR1300-FJR1300 I bought the Rifle first, then a CeeBailey and now have the VStream, I left the block in place durng all tests . I have heard of folks making this adjustment with washers....fyi. Another great fark is the G2 throttle cam, makes a pleasant difference. http://g2ergo.com/shop/catalog/Street-4-1.html
Now that I've got the Silverstars in hand and the PIAA's mounted, I don't need 18 hrs of sunlight. By all means, let's do a 'meet halfway' ride. I had to Googlemap Kaycee to see where WTH it was. Lunch and back would be great.
