I've read that the Yamaha Touring Screen gives a lot of buffeting. What is the best touring (taller) screen for the XTR?
Yeh wish I'd seen this before I bought the factory tall screen, it's next to useless. I have tried changing the angle of the screen to no avail.
So which touring screen works on the XTR? I know there are several factors that creates the turbulence, but what screen has been largely successful for riders?
Screens are like helmets I ride in an Arai recon it is the quietest helmet I've ever owned, recommended it to a mate and he thinks it's the noisiest helmet he has ever owned. Both my wife and I have the Yamaha screen I'm 5ft 10 and get some noise and turbulence my wife is a bit taller and has no problems. At least the Yamaha screen is easy to swap back to standard (four allen screws) which is what I do if I'm not doing long trips with a lot of highway work. I'm not a fan of screens and have never found a screen I've been totally happy with on any bike. Even a cross wind can make a quiet screen annoying. I'm planning to cut my screen down an inch or two some time this week. I will report back if it improves things or not. cheers
Yes exactly John. I'm 6'2" and I don't have the same turbulence issues that some shorter riders have had with some standard bike screens. I like the look of the Yamaha Touring screen and hoped it would be a good screen for use on my XTR.
I was at Team Moto Yamaha Moorooka this morning and they have three XT660R's in blue at $8990 ride away, floor stock only. They are brand new but 2012 models.
I'll be interested to here how your cut down screen goes John, I'm a short arse but apparently I sit tall, (you know , no legs) and the tall screen drives the wind straight into my helmet.
Shendo & All, cut down my screen and took the bike for a run today. I cut about 2 inches off the top, making it about 4 inches higher than the standard screen. I used an angle grinder with a cut off disc to cut it down and shape it then cleaned up the edges with some wet & dry sand paper. Was it worth doing? IMO yep, bit of a compromise, a little less protection, but no buffeting of the helmet. the wind hits me in the very upper part of the chest now instead of the helmet. It still gives protection to the GPS as well.
Yes that's the trouble with having no experience with screens, you go from the stocker which does nothing and think the tall one will be the go only to get all the wind , turbulence right in the neck. Guess I'll hafta learn to ride my xt like I'm at Philip Island
Hi guys, I'm trying to track down a set of brake rotor/disc bolts for my xt660r. I have xtx wheels for it and I think the hubs are the exact same. Yamaha will sting me $130 for the 12 bolts which makes me want to scream. Does anyone know where I can get aftermarket bolts to fit (I have tried a few bolt shops and they don't have them because they aren't standard) or have you heard of a wrecker who is currently wrecking an xt660? Thanks Sarah
check this guy....he might have some http://stores.ebay.com/BRAKE-DISC-FACTORY/_i.html?_fsub=2343965018&_nkw=xt+yamaha+tenere
What sort of rides are Oz Adv'ers doing on these bikes.... E.g. 60% hwy, 30% gravel etc. Or: where are you going, 2 dayers etc. Curious to know what you do and whether the bike (xt660r) is meeting those goals.
