    isn´t RD04 an africa twin, in that case the pipes are stainless and won´t fit the transalp engine.

    Whats a good long lasting tire for a africa twin. Mostly street riding.

    Where'd you guys find all those rocks?

    No lack of building material there.

    What do you know about emissions specs in europe? Italy in particular. Some other european ADV riders are saying that the price on ATs, DR Bigs, Teneres etc are starting to plummet because of new emissions regs.

    It sure would be nice to be able to import some of those machines rather the seeing them all rot and be broken for parts.

    We love granite. Northern Portugal is still building houses with medieval stones :deal

    Africa twin's can be had for cheap, I bought mine for 3500 euros with a 2 year warranty, teneres are super cheap, and can be head for less than 2000$. They are definatly good bikes if you can't afford the new stuff.

    You don't usually find bikes rotting away, specially africa twins. Even in europe where they are abundant they are still very desirable. It's a cult thing, and even the r1200gs owners come talk to me about my bike.

    Importing a bike to the states can be difficult from all that i've read. But you will need to get it to pass emissions, and i have heard it can cost about 1000$ dollars. Shipping a bike on a ship is about 500-800 dollars if you put the bike in a bin with other bikes.

    I don't know actually, it came with the bike when I bought it. However, looking at the underside makes me suspect it's just the standard seat redone.
    It's lower, wider and a helluva lot comfier (I've done over 1,200 miles in a day no problem). But I would like it to be higher and... black !!

    for AT innovators:
    do you guys use XR600 or XR400 tubes as replace for originals? Does the stock AT utilize a 41mm tube size?
    of the available "gently used" tubes & stuff, which are the best to pick for the project? I'm looking for adjustability

    AT's have 43mm fork tubes, same as XR600 in diameter, What are you trying to do ??? more details would help with advice

    TAs have 41mm.

    Just a quickie, my son is looking at a 650 africa twin tomorrow. its an 88 model. The clutch has just started to slip. What should we look out for on this bike? its in the uk and was imported 2 years ago from italy.
    What are the main problems with these old bikes? Thanks guys.
