Looking for some options for myself and Mala Bunny after our wedding this summer, and where better to ask than here? Not really locked into a particular country at this point, and open to suggestions. What we don't want is a big, expensive, crowded resort. More interested in an ADV style honeymoon where we fly in, stay at a semi-secluded beach, grass hut is fine if there are showers and facilities (it would have to be a pretty nice grass hut). Close enough to walk into a small town would be nice, or a small hotel in a small ocean village. Of course moto rental options are also a plus. Recomendations?
Belize might be on the dangerous side for honeymoon adventuring. I have heard good things about Honduras and Costa Rica, though. Staying on small islands may keep the crowds down, but also limits nightlife. I was just looking into over-the-water-bungalows, and ran across this website: http://www.overwaterbungalows.net/overwater-bungalows-in-honduras.html This place rents motorcycles on the Island of Roatan, off the north coast of Honduras. Cruise ships stop there, so the port areas could be crowded. Staying elsewhere on the island may be the right balance: http://captainvans.com/captain_rentals.htm Congrats on your upcoming wedding, and have a great time!
Corn Islands, Nicaragua big one or little if you like the island life and scuba or Nicaragua mainland gets my vote. Inmate on here rents motos there.
I love the over water bungalows, but $250/night is out of our price range. Who is this inmate renting motos?
When I go to Google and type in this phase " Site: Advrider.com Nicaragua motorcycle rental" I get this as the first hit Goodluck
Big and little Corn look like unspoiled paradise. I keep seeing this photo pop up, but can't figure out what resort it is:
Try looking in this area... http://hotels.nicoyapeninsula.com/ Mal Pais is a cool little town and I'd just go there and find a place to stay on my own rather than reserve one. You won't have any problem finding a place and pricing will be better than the advertised places like you will find on that link. Rent a bike or suv in San Jose and drive/ride there.
Last I heard, Sal was in Switzerland. If he's still doing mc rentals, see if you can find him on facebook. Or send me a PM and I'll see if I can find his email. Sal is a very, very cool guy. As for where to go, why hasn't anybody suggested San Blas, in Panama? Cheap, easy to get to, rustic, great weather...
