Hmm, my dealer recommends the 180 for better handling. Then I go for the 170 for the best of both worlds. Haha. The best part is: only 5 days between ordering and receiving it. Gotta love that 3448,- for the rims and the cushion only. No in the market for rubber, wavedisks and a sprocket. I'm a truly happy boy. Give me a week and I will post my experiences with 17 inch rims and the stock braking setup.
Totally agree with you, and apologize for teasing everyone on this thread. If you have expendable cash and want to have extra toys that you will love, all the power to you. I'd have two SEs in my garage if I could afford them, and probably would have one tarded. But I must say that a 240 lb. tard is MUCH more fun, especially on the track, either go-cart or conventional. By the way, Kirkmoon, I don't do much track stuff anymore (high side at Virginia International at 50 mph dulled my enthusiasm), so you might be interested in my helmet. It's almost brand new!
My experience with my SuperEnduro is limited to two years and 14,000 miles (mostly dirt, but some highway), so I'm not an expert, but your observation is accurate. This bike, with the 21 inch front wheel, gets pretty squirrelly over 85 mph. Does fine cruising at 80, but over that, you better have a steering damper. Or just not go over 80! And be VERY careful crossing lanes. The white lines and the expansion joints between lanes could easily cause a tank slapper, leaving you in a ditch. 21 inch front wheels are really designed for the dirt. Remember, this is a military grade jungle assault vehicle, engineered for a particular purpose....kick the HP-2's ass! Under 80, even with the 21 inch wheel, if you have a nice dual sport tire on the front, like the Karoo (T), it carves pretty good. But don't try and slow down quickly on a downhill wet twisty road. Unless you like two wheel slides. And yes, the bike you fellows have been wanting with all these conversions is now available, engineered to perfection, with all the angles and physics figured out for you. The 950 SM-R. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if the RC8 wasn't coming soon to the US. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgzKMOQ0Y7w Please note that everything on this video is illegal. The problem with these bikes!
G, what tires are you running?....with a TKC on the front...you should be able to do 120+ without a wobble...I am 6'3" as well...and don't find it to be an issue...
Can't argue with your suggestion of a small displacement thumper tard for track riding, but for street riding there's no replacement for displacement. I have owned a tarded 450EXC and an XR650R. Didn't care for the EXC on the street at all. Loved the XR, but not for any distance. The 950 SM is (IMHO) pretty close to the perfect balance of comfort, power and handling for street play. Nice. High sides suck. Haven't had the pleasure of one myself (and hopefully never will) but I do a lot of track riding on my Gixxer and have tasted the pleasures of four low sides in the past couple of years including a couple at relatively high speed. My leathers are looking pretty gnarly these days.
Oh Crap, Docgonzo thought Nowhat had "TOO MUCH" money?????? Wait until he gets a peek at this guys stable. Not only did he Bastardize the SE he went out and got Doc's dream bike as well, this is going get nasty. Ok just joshing.
The SE non bastardize in dirt trim, as it takes me just over 1 hour to change every thing over, 3 hours to clean it first.
Raise, I am with you 100%-------inside joke about the SE being "Bastardized" I got alot of grief about how it was supposed to be a DIRT BIKE ONLY when I was trying to get some 17's fitted for mine. I have my SE where I can do the same swap. I love it. You will love this site, alot of great people with alot of knowledge about the bikes.
Raise, can you tell me what motard componentry you are running? It looks to me like EXCEL wheels, and Beringer caliper. Can you give me part numbers for the Beringer (if thats what it is) caliper etc and tell me whether you had to make up any adaptors/spacers etc? What hubs are you running? Did you have to go with a cross spoke design to allow room for the caliper? What size rear wheel? Sorry about the 20 questions. Obviously you are in Australia (falcon ute) so i would love to know who was your supplier. Slyda
Hey Big B.... btw you are right....the 16-45 gearing is too low for the 17" rear wheel....going to put the 17 back on the front to start.....
I wish I had a RPM just to see what the change equals. It might sound crazy but I even am thinking about trying the 17-42 combo to see what it is like?? It is a bit buzzy still with the 16-42 17" wheel combo. But it takes off like a rocket when I go to pass someone. Just don't know for sure what RPM I am running. I love the 16-45 18" for the off road it is perfect.
Fo shizzle. With my motard wheels, i left it stock gearing as its pretty good set up, though it doesnt take long to swap over the counter sprocket. I would like to get a different rear sprocket set up, however, so I can have easier street gearing and dirt gearing.
Slyda, I got the wheels from Ash's wheels in Brisbane, an the beringer kit from the importer, everything bolts straight on, 5.5 rear wheel. i'm in Kuwait working be back in Brisbane in 2 weeks, an can find all the info if you like.
Brilliant. thanks Raise. I have been in contact with Ash's in the past. Will get back onto them pronto. Slyda
@The Big Bear: Do you have any problems with the length of the side standard when you change from 21-18 to 17-17? At what angle stands your bike when parked with the 17 inch rims?
the angle is damn near straight up....:huh ....I try to find a little slope to park on whenever possible....
