So a while back I was up at a sorta local BMW dealership. I noticed the age group was a little older than myself at 22. I brought this up to the man behind the desk and he informed me that my age is more of the norm for gs owners. I found this shocking. I have ever seen anyone looking under 30 riding a gs... anyone else thing this is false? Kind of a pointless post but I have been a bit curious.
I bought my F8 just before I turned 30. Most GS owners I have met in SoCal look somewhere between 35 and 45. The first "adventure" ride I went on ended around the campfire with someone your age (riding a DR) complaining about "the old farts on their GSs who didn't go riding [in the terrible weather] during Warped 2012." Man it was tough to hold my tongue listening to that little shithead. I definitely think you are on the younger end. Not sure that it matters. Glad you are in the club.
Absolutely false! At all the rallies I go to, I have never seen anyone under 40 IMO. Most are in their 50s. However, at 22 years of age, I think the bike would be well suited to you. You would certainly stand out from your peers in a good way.
Why do these age polls always stop at 60+? You have no idea of what your missing by going higher, much higher.
AVERAGE AGE RESULTS CHART: Now at 48.3 (756respondents).. % VIEWERS OF THREAD WHO OWN GS: 18% HERE'S THE FINAL ANSWER: AFTER 756 RESPONSES...IT APPEARS THAT THE AVERAGE AGE HAS STABILIZED AT 48.3... <iframe src="https://skydrive.live.com/embed?cid=2A3A3F4609DB3988&resid=2A3A3F4609DB3988%21309&authkey=APoeoa5BaMx4hZc" frameborder="0" height="120" scrolling="no" width="98"></iframe> 1. Yeah...they should AT LEAST have a 65+ category Signed...66,,,no not the route. 2. Seen anybody under 30-ish with a wad of $20's to pay cash for a BMW? Not many. 3. "No money...no funny" 4. Clarification: When you say "own"...do you mean YOU OWN...or YOU/BANK/CREDIT UNION? 5. Note: Age profile so far resembles my SIDE PROFILE! BTW...I fell for the same trap when I designed the survey for "How many miles on your GS" and failed to have mileage categories above 60,000, Oops? That's about the MEDIAN for some years. You HAVE done the survey, right? http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=744842 Thanks, if your one of the 1,200+ respondents!
When your hair is getting SILVER...and Your teeth are getting GOLD... Make sure you're getting WISER... Instead of simply getting O-L-D!
Yeah..right-on Marty........74 here and I was going over 100MPH on my GS today on the way back from the store....the late model Caddy couldn't keep up.
Im in my mid 30s and I see your point for curiosity. I can only speak for myself, so the reason is ignorance and machismo. When younger you want fast, sexy and you never go anywhere far. Just ride with your boys around and do the occasional track day. Talk about horsepower and tt. Then you come out of the shell and realize there is a world to explore. But not to explore fast bc you will miss the journey. That's when a GS or KTM or KLR or whatever starts making sense. Now you may be more established and can take time off ( not just weekends) to go somewhere. Don't get me wrong, you can still have a sexy MV Agusta to do track days too, but your horizons -or borders- are now vanished and instead of bar hopping Sat night you may now turn to a lake trip in some distant mountain. Just my opinion Btw I just got my GSA and I did notice what you are speaking off when I picked it up. You know something, the guys there were very informative and helpful and clearly knew their stuff . After 20 yrs of riding sports bikes I've learned the pleasure of riding without pressure.
Had many bikes in the past... bought my first GS recently at 53. BTW, I notice the poll closes in August 2015... some of us may not be around by then!
