Collar boned
Wow, word travels fast. Thanks for all the well-wishes, guys - you rock!
Snapped my left clavicle in half on LITERALLY the last downhill section of two days of hard riding. My only mishap of the whole, awesome weekend. A sharp, steep, loose gravel switchback treated me to a washed-out front end and a big ole' downhill high side. 235 lbs of manliness came down hard on my left shoulder. Ouch! My gear did what it was supposed to - no other scratches. I don't know what additional gear would have helped prevent that injury - maybe some industrial-strength water wings or something? Bike was fine, of course. Besides that, an AWESOME weekend of riding. I felt much better prepared for the dirt this time, compared to last year - thanks to riding with Tami and Eric a bunch this past year, plus the dirt sections to and from Alaska. I got to ride with Senor Peligro - which was great. Here are some photos. With any luck, I'll be out of my brace in time for the meet-and-eat at my place... or almost, anyways. I can grill one-handed! Ouch! ![]() The gang: ![]() Me and my steed: ![]() Senior Peligro: ![]() Derek & Andy change Andy's rear tube:

Steve - Let us know. We don't have to do your place in June if you are still recovering. If you are indeed up for it, I am more than happy to help out on the grill or whatever is needed in preparation, as I work in Emeryville and may be able to leave work early.
I have had my share of spills - once the day is worn and you think you're there...it bites ya.

Steve, heal up well and soon dude! Sorry to hear of your tumble and hope that won't hurt your business too badly while you're on the mend. In any case, if you still want to host the next M&E for the motley crew, then count me in (along with Chris) as an early arrival to help with whatever.

Well that is a big suck.
I did the same thing road racing (except assisted by a thoughtful Ducati, which ran over me). I had to have a plate and screws put in -- apparently, the collar bone acts like a fulcrum for one particular muscle, and when the bone is fully separated like that, you have to have surgery to get the muscle back on the correct side of the bone, and to affix the bone. Don't worry, you'll be fine.

Let's operate! I still have the plate taken out from my surgery and I'm sure we can find some screws. The clavicle is rather close to the surface and not too many critical structures nearby. Especially if you don't need to use your arm anymore. No problem.
Seriously, heal fast Steve. If you need any help with projects in progress just give me a holler.
