Taking the family out in a rental RV. I will be bringing the KLR.

Any suggestions from you riders? Were spending 2 nights and wanted to find a cool area to stay.

    Thanks for any ideas.

South Mineral Campground just north of Silverton is nice if you want a relaxed, forest environment.

Amphitheater campground in Ouray is also nice, but fills quickly.

The state park in Ridgway is nice. Lake, showers, shaded camp sites, lots of stuff for the kids.

Euraka, above Silverton has an RV park. I haven't stayed there, so can't tell you much about it.

Also, you can dry camp all along the road to South Mineral if you don't wanna pay.

4J +1+1 RV Park right in Ouray on the Ucompahgre River.! Weird name but awesome lil Park. We stay there each July when returning from the Webe Powderhorn race. Easy walk to all restaurants..

    ^^ that.

I'd head east out of silverton towards Animas Forks. Good dry camping up there.

As of a couple of days ago Mineral Creek was Mineral Raging River. Make sure to make some inquiries regarding the road in there before wandering in with your rental RV :lol3

Ouray KOA is nice but the management are WAY too uptight. Red Mountain isn't as nice but the management are cool. Better access to riding in Silverton (Red Mountain). Better access to hot springs in Ouray. That 4J+1+1 place is right in town in Ouray and looks kinda cool. We haven't stayed there personally though.

Check out Orvis Hot Springs if you're not squeamish about naked folks. Best hot spring in the area. No RV spots per see but they will let you camp in the parking lot if there is room.

    Have fun!

+1 about the KOA folks. They act like they're doing you a favor by letting you pay them.

If yer not into naked folks, which you prolly aren't with the family in tow, the Ouray municipal spring is great and a nice family environment ~5 mins from amphitheater campground.

Were heading to the Dunes first and then 4J RV park in Ouray. Then heading north to Steamboat. Just need to find the most scenic routes.

This will be our first RV rental . Should be fun.

Thanks for all the recommendations folks.

What he was asking is: do you only want to stay in places with full hook ups or do you want to booney camp (dry camp) in the bush? Some of the greatest places to stay in CO are dry camps, as you probably know, but I can see why you might want to stay close to hookups with the kids. Plus many dry camps would not be accessible in a 35' RV. Have a blast...and post up with all your RV noob questions. :lol3 particularly shit valve and holding tank issues. Those are always good...

I happen to really like 4J +1+1 RV Park right in Ouray for its walking location to town and the hot springs. Great choice.

For a noob, I'm sticking to the rv sites with hook ups. Im sure I have a lot to learn. Would love to do the dry camping on another trip.

    Thanks again
