It was just this summer when I had that conversation, so it should be current. The guy is also an organizer of some sort for off-road riding, so he sounded like he knew what he was talking about. He also said it's pretty technical, so I don't think I'd try it unless I took the Husaberg TE250 up there.

Yeah it's fairly technical. It's mostly rocky.

I'll check it out next summer.

There is a hiking trail that goes through and part of it is on an old mining road bed, but it is definitely not legal for motorized.

Oh, yes. I tried to find that trail one time. It starts out by the dump. We climbed and climbed but never saw a sign or anything that would indicate we were on the right trail. It was just an endless maze of logging roads.

I hear there are, quote " hundreds of miles of OHV dirt trails around Red River area". This came from a web site advertising the Red River area. Are they exaggerating a bit or you guys find this to be the case out there?

There are hundreds of miles of trails in the area. All of Northern NM is crisscrossed with OHV trails. A permit is required. Many places sell them.
