I have decided to buy a V-Strom DL1000. I'm guessing that the following prices are valid: (Plus tax) - New '04 $8,500 - New '03 $8,000 (inventory reduction) - Used '03 $7,500 - Used '02 $7,000 Do you think I'm close? Thanks, RedDirt
The prices seem to vary a lot. I stopped by my local Suzuki dealer today (serious about buying one) and talked V-Strom. He had a 2003 that has been sitting there for a long time. He quoted me ~$500 off the MSRP of $8,899. He has always been high in the past though and I suspect that may be the case here. www.Traderonline.com is an excellent place to look. Ebaymotors too. There's a 2002 V-Strom on there for $5,800. Not to mention the classifieds here. Not sure why there's such a variation on pricing?!?
Red Dirt, It's a shame you don't live in the Southeast. Check out this link. A Tampa/St. Pete dealer is selling these (It's NOT an auction) for $6899! Apparently he has several. That's a good deal. V-Strom Daytona Demos for sale!
My local dealer has an '03 silver for $7400. He claims that's a "break even" price - I think he's full of crap. Ergo is right - it really seems to depend on where you live. Good luck on your search RedDirt - hopefully I'll be joining you in ownership this spring!

From the looks of things cycletrader.com looks like a sub site to traderonline.com There is usally some really net stuff on cycletrader. I also see dealers selling their overstock bikes on powersportsnetwork.com
RedDirt, That's about right...and you have the winter season working for you. You may also get better pricing towards the end of the month. Depending on your local dealer, they may deal a bit with the '03's since they're bringing in the '04 650 Strom and may want to clear the floor. You may also be able to work a deal on additional accessories that have been sitting for a while--bike covers, locks, '02-'03 helmets, and so on, if they don't drop the price as much as you'd like to see. I'm a former parts mgr...when sales couldn't budge on price, I could sometimes help close a deal by bundling in some older gear I needed to move, and bundled it into the deal at cost. Do the math on your 1st service or two and you may come out better with a used low-mileage '02 or '03. Not always, but run the numbers just in case. Just my .02.
RedDirt, I paid $7900 about 6 weeks ago. the dealer is a long time Suzuki, Honda dealer with an excellent service dept. I have heard of them going for around 7400 in some areas. it was worth it to me to go with a dealer with a good reputation. Good Luck you will like your Strom.
