Help Got 1996 Ural 650 Tourist. Any time I try to shift the gears up I hear granding Noice. I did check clutch and looks ok. My question is : It is normal For Ural to do that. Bike has 5000 miles Thanks for any help Dzini
Yep, very normal to have some noise and clunk and even my 2006 does it. They changed to better gears the following years. As they say "Loud Gears Save Lives"
Yup, a buzz grinding noise is common especially if you're up shifting with the toe shifter. Using the awkward heel shifter nets you a nice solid clunk w/o the buzz. Prolly get somewhat better after about 10,000 km but basically it's the nature of the beast. You don't want to stomp on the shifter but a firm deliberate force is needed. A weak limp pressure will get you a grind every time. The newer Herzog geard trannies are the same but not as bad. I opted for the right hand tank shifter and works well(heel-toe shifter still in place). By the time the hand comes off the throttle to shift, everythings spooled down just about right for a nice snick drop-in shift.

One more question! What about switch to synthetic trans oil. That would help? Or will start liking oil all over? :) Thanks Dzini
