Seriously, good news. Takes the heart of a lion and huge balls to do this in these slow times.

Yay, I am glad he is coming back to the street side of things. Saddly, I probably wouldn't be able to afford anything from him (new at least) for quite some time. I'll probably end up buying parts from him, if he keeps that side of his business up.

Glad to hear it. Wish I had the money to buy a new one. One of the reasons I'm not a big Harley fan anymore. Still love my old turd but wouldn't buy a new one regardless. Good Luck Erik.

He's got what, 7-8 months to get a bike out for you to win the bet?

I think it's great. Good for him. I'd like a smaller displacement v-twin than 1190 cc. A nice naked standard-a Street Triple killer....

Like an SV..... But with fuel in the frame, better suspension, a bit lighter weight, maybe cheaper components where they can be used, and not classed as anything sporty (for insurance reasons)?

    I would love that.

Yeah, a 700-900 cc medium to short stroke v-twin that freely revs to 10 grand. 11 to 12/1 compression ratio. 90 ish hp and 50-60 ft/lbs tq at the wheel. Brembo radial brakes or the ZTL brakes on prior Buells. Different seats like BMW has for short or tall folks. Abs as an option. One simple bucket headlight. Spin-off oil filter. Decent accommodations for short pillion rides. Sort of like the BMW F800r or naked sv650 (one of the best bikes EVER IMHO :), but with the engine I mentioned and simple headlight. Made in USA. No need for multiple engine maps on the fly or tire pressure monitors-stuff like that.

I'm guessing this would come in around 10 thou.

He basically made that bike, though it didn't rev to 10 grand, had lower compression (who cares what the c/r is?), made about 15 more foot pounds of torque than you specified at the wheel and about 15 hp less, and didn't have a single headlight. I owned one, a 2003 XB-9 Lightning. It was a superb middleweight, and I rode it plenty with a friend who rode an SV-650. The Lightning was slightly faster in a straight line, but the real difference showed up in the twisties. The Buell would flat out leave the SV.

I put nearly 20,000 very hard miles on it before I traded it towards an XB-12R Firebolt. It really was a wonderful bike for the money. Decent out of the box suspension, fantastic fuel mileage, ultra low maintenance, a very well balanced package that just plain worked.

Glad to see Erik's back. Can't wait to see what he does next.
