Awesome they could do low level acrobatics over a crowded beach like the dipsticks of a certain county unit of a certain beach town I used to live in located in a certain retirement state.
Great pictures from Antarctica. Every year I debate whether or not to bid on the mechanic jobs that get posted for McMurdo. Looks really interesting. Thanks for posting!
Seem's to me, you being a helicopter pilot and all, that if you were really trying to teach that penguin to fly you'd be spinning around in circles really fast....
Yep. Just like the wings on a plane, you want the rotor blades kept clean. Any ice accretion changes the airflow over the blade and results in a loss of lift. Cleaning the blades in the morning gives you plenty of opportunity to damage them, so best to cover them overnight.
The blades being covered saves much time. As mentioned ice or snow on them is bad and they are pretty fragile. While working in the arctic the cooks helper used a metal spatula unknown to us to "HELP" chip the ice off of the blades and grips. One set of blades and a head later we were set to go. That and about 25,000$:huh
that is what i thought and it made sense in the way i was relating it to fix wing. would love to be working up there...
