you know, that is the same thing she thinks, she is growing so fast she outgrew her xr100. we are working new bike, car, proms etc.........
okay I have to admit that I have no kids. never wanted or needed them but I am the fav uncle to 1 niece and 3 nephews. I applaud all you dad's out there. you have my utmost respect. this is definately the best thread on the site.
Great thread folks. I have the pleasure of three girls and six grandkids and they have brought great pleasure to our lives here in Southern Tasmania. Sonia and her twin sister, (Search and Destroy), live here in Tassie close by. We enjoy each others company and I can tell by the contents of this thread that I am in good company with many others. Cheers, JQ.
The BEST post on this site. When you look at all the jive-ass, beligerent, text msging, IM'ing, MTV wannabe, rude, obnoxious, characterless, uninteresting, brain-dead, mall rat, potty-mouthed, BORING kids running around today, I bet that less than 0.01% of the kids in this post can be characterized as such. Thanks Dads for getting your kids OUTSIDE, doing something contstructive with them.
Here's my little girl, age 8, with her brand-new helmet and goggles. We just putted around the neighborhood on the old XL at first, then started taking longer trips (to Dairy Queen). She was as excited as I was when I brought home the Tiger. I let her sit on it with the engine running. She loved to blip the throttle to make it go ZING! We ride quite a bit on the Tiger now, mostly just around town or 1/2 hour rides to a country store for a snack. my girl loves to ride with me, doesn't matter if it's around the block or down the slab. She wants me to take her to school on the first day this year.
So last night, I was laying on the floor playing with Sarah (3 yrs in Dec) and Daniel (1 next week). Whenever she sees him getting attention, she has to shove her way in between us, not being ugly, but still intentionally trying to divert Daddy's attention to more important matters. You know how it is with kids under three... You try every way imaginable to tell them to stop doing something... You tell them a hundred times... You put them in time out... (some might need a whoopin but that doesn't really work with her... yet...) You tell them again... Then she jumped on me once again and hit me pretty good in the eye while flailing around. So I finally popped and really barked at her for the first time ever.... It lasted all of about two seconds. I can give you numerous excuses, tired, stressed, all the usual stuff, and all irrelevant. I know you can't let the kids run unchecked. I know you have to teach them self control. I know you have to have firm, loving and consistent discipline so that they know where the boundaries are... blah blah blah... I know all that other stuff... As she stopped cold, stood there looking at me in stunned and hurt silence, none of that stuff mattered. Here was my little girl, who has the sweetest heart and loves me to death, looking at me with a hint of fear in her eyes... Man... I cannot even begin to describe how low I felt after that... I immediately stopped and apologized to her. I Hugged her close and reassured her that I still loved her and that she was still "Daddy's special girl." She was soon back to laughing and playing. Who knows... years from now she may have no memory of it ever happening? However, from my own past I know how even a brief intense experience can affect a person very deeply. I know I can't be a perfect Dad and that I will make many mistakes along the way. I will never understand these parents that take raising their kids so lightly or even see them as an inconvenient problem or a constant nuisance. We lost three to miscarriages before we finally had Sarah. Daniel was an unexpected bonus. I pray every night for both of them. I pray that my wife and I will be able to maintain the connections with them as they grow so that our relationships stay open and loving instead of cold and harsh like so many child-parent relationships seem to become. Sitting on this side of the fence, I can't believe how strongly I did not want kids only a few years back. I feel blessed beyond measure that I finally came to my senses and we have been given the privilege of raising these two kids. I was a bit the same way about marriage too Fortunately, I came around in that department (before trying to start a family) and have also been truly blessed with a wonderful wife. Sometimes I start feeling sorry for myself because I don't have the exact bike(s) I want, I don't have all the farkles and mods I want, I don't get to ride whenever I want, I don't get to travel all over the world indefinitely like I want, want, want, want,... All those things pale to what I have been given. I also regularly pray that God never misses an opportunity to remind me of this. This thread is a real inspiration in that regard!

Nate??? As in the Nate that used to have a VFR he packed like a mule and hung out on the VFR mailing list?
Yep. Scott! And as in Nate who's now a daddy! Chanah's 18mos now. From last summer: (note she's already learned to look through the turn! And I've still got the VFR.) Getting her started on wrenching, too! (these are a couple months old. I have to upload some new ones)
I'm glad to see this thread's still going strong. It's very inspirational. I've got a very special photo I've wanted to setup and share for quite a while. This is my father, his daughter (my sister) and me and my daughter on bikes off on a ride. Two fathers with their two daughters on a ride. Awesome. (my girl and I are on the white bike)
Ahhhhhhhh, Greg---she's a keeper!!!!! Congrats !!!!! Think she'll be on her own bike at the spring fling in 16 years or so???
I think you touched a special nerve in all of us with your report!!! Thanks!!! Can't wait for that special ride in a few years! Here's my little one... Thinking big and color coordinated: Ride safe!! Cheers, HG
So my wife just dropped the bombshell a few minutes ago... :huh "Next time we are getting back on the pill!!!" Number three is on the way...
I've got to get in on this too. We've ridden around the block in winter coat, snow pants, boots and bicycle helmet. Have to wait now for full ATG for a longer ride.
