So... wondering if anyone here owns two thumpers... if so what have you got?

    How do you justify it?

I was thinking of replacing my XR650L with a KLR650 or G650GS but I decided instead to just buy the G650GS in addition to the XR. Not sure that this makes much sense since they're similar in so many ways in the grand scheme of things but I really don't want to beat up the BMW off road and when I thought about what bike I would want in addition to the XRL, dirt road capability and being cheap (to buy, fuel and maintain) were at the top of my list... thus the G650GS.

    no need to justify it

if you like both, have both. if the wife complains, trade her in for a newer model or learn to ignore her.

as for justification each thumper serves a specific purpose.

And I have my eye on a ktm 200 xc because I can't resist the Orange coolaid. No need to justify having more than one thumper. Each serves a purpose.

There isn't one bike that can do it all. But you already knew that.

:huh Um, I ahh... I really needed a different color...

Actually, I do have a reason. I love the 650 for most road riding, be it pave, gravel or dirt. It is smooth, quiet, comfortable and effortlessly fast, it just slips through space. The 350 (hi-comp piston, piped, jetted etc) is for anything dirty and tight. It rips through space throwing rocks mud and dirt everywhere. It is not relaxing to ride but provides adrenaline overload when I'm in need.

Whatever you want! I only own one because I like sport bikes too so have the RC51. Got the hots for a new bike though. the 690r is a solid keeper and I'm limited at the moment to two bikes so the RC may have to make room for a GS1200 or a Ducati 1198sp. Leaning towards the Duc and leave the GS for more advanced age:D

its not hard to justify 2 thumpers, unless they're big-buck machines.

while i wouldn't mind a street-bike, i cannot justify one with what my thumpers can give me.

i have 2 thumpers at the moment & lookin for another for my woman to ride

Its hard to justify having only two, before school I had five singles (raced 125 and 250cc classes in MX and HS). Now just two (well, plus the wife's two plus the one that lives in Colorado). I make due with one as the trail rider/dual sporter and one as the MX'er. Don't know how I could get by with just one - really need to add another for going fast in the woods, ship one off to SoCal for baja runs and then a trials bike would be good as would a supermoto...

Bikes are like fly rods, you need a four weight for small streams and you need a 8 weight for big water.......

so a WR 450 out west is nice

and a F650 Dakar lets the GF ride along behind on gravel roads, and doesn't beat you up on the slab.

And that is barely enough, want to add a 2 smoke trials or YZ 125 for a feather weight (2 weight) someday
