I had not really noticed it before. but on my last ride after a month and a half off, the bars buzzed my hands to complete numbness. The bike was smooth as silk when I pulled the clutch in at speed, so Its not the 908 and Mt21. or new much stiffer suspension. I did install new risers and rubber isolation grommets. I dont think there is a loose motor mount, but I guess I should check that out. Anyone else have this issue? if so what you found anything to help prevent it? anyone have experiance with products like the Vibranator? Back in the day, I used to fill my off road bikes bars with catalyzed Silicone, That seamed to help on a CR 500 Maybe I'm just getting old and soft:eek1
I believe that they are very similar (if not exactly like) the Vibranators you mentioned however, these (http://www.highwaydirtbikes.com/HDB_Shop/index.php?app=ccp0&ns=prodshow&ref=Th_insert_av) are what I use on the 690 to keep the handle bar vibes down. They come with a guide and the tap for an easy install. As an added bonus, you really get to crank down the hand guards so they won't move in an off. Just be forewarned, the tap guide needs to go over the handle bar a ways to work correctly so you will need to take off your old grips to install properly. You might be able to "roll back" the edge of the grip but it would be a pain IMO.
What bar risers did you put on? When I put my Rox Risers and set them to the position I wanted the bars in (as high as possible) I started experiencing a lot of numbness in my hands and even soreness on my neck in longer rides. I ended up rotating the risers and bars a little towards the back (so that my elbows bent some more while seated) and that cured it. The correction in position for the bars was very subtle, about 8mm (1/3 inch) but it made a huge difference in comfort.
My bars get a bit buzzy over 5k and under 4k on the tach. I pretty much cruise within that range anyway so the revs rarely bother me. If anything they tell me to slow down in 6th gear
Thanks for the replies..I was thinking maybe the KTM hard parts risers are tightened down a bit to much.. something is out of the ordinary.I did cartwheel the bike at 60 or so. I don't remember it being near this bad before.
Hmm.. I did pull the reckluse out recently..And the clutch is very notchy(is that a word?) when cold..
The fact that it changed after your get-off would worry me. Best to chase down the issue rather than cover the problem up. I have had vibrations when the motor was not "relaxed" in the frame. I loosened all the mounts and re-tightened them a little at a time like the head on your v8. That cured it. It's hard to tell what it is, but it's likely the symptom of another problem.
I think so to..The bottom tank mount was pushed back enough that none of the bolts even came close to lining up. It also mangled a BD skid plate.. I better pull it apart and check it out..
Don't fill the bars all the way with lead shot, just get some flat lead plumbers tape, roll up a 3" long taper and hammer it into the bar ends, put your grips back on and ride. Acts just like bar end weights.
I just was looking at these today. Have not tried them but apparently its "The best kept secret in the pro pits" http://www.fasstco.com/shop/anti-vibration-inserts
And replied to..... rburkat, take a look at the HDB set in my link above. They thread into the bars making the most secure barkbuster mount one could imagine. I would bet that your handlebars would break before the barkbuster gets moved in an off. If anyone can't tell, I hate it when a simple fall results in needing to break out the tools to rearrange your handlebars because the barkbuster rotated.
+1 for the HDB inserts as I said on the similar thread in thumpers.... I've had a little wear and tear over the years and sometimes the vibes on the 610 and the 950 would get to me. I added the Highway Dirtbikes anti-vibe insert and found that it made a difference, and of course still allows for the HDB guards
