I was thinking of trying 17 and 18 on Sunday for the first time, is Finney Creek Road the correct start (best option) for getting to 17?

There's 3 places I know of to access 17 & 18. I don't know names of roads. Sorry. HW.

The finney creek or finney cumberland off south skagit hwy is a good place to start.

Channeling Tom Edison. Pics from today's ride. Rode 7 hours. Ran out of gas. Saved by a couple Germans. Several spur roads were not gated. Very unusual. Air conditioning was on all morning. Felt good. HW.

An awesome day. Rode past the slide. Had not been there yet. Unreal devastation. Lots of heavy equipment today. HW.

I looked for that today, but didn't locate it unless it the right turn that heads up hill that has a second entrance shortly after? There was a stop sign that had a 17 spray painted on the back of it but I don't trust stuff like that. Instead I continued to Finney Creek Road and went up to 17 from there and then veered left to catch 18 all the way down to the gas station on hwy 530. Then took 530 to Lake Cavanaugh Rd to north hwy 9. Pretty fun first outing off pavement. There were a couple pucker moments but managed to not off myself. Need to get used to the off road boots, they were stiff and made feel a little dull when braking and shifting. Fun time overall though. Glad I saved a google offline map before I went.

If you had turned right when you took the left turn on to FS 18, you would have ended up at the afore mentioned spot. Now you know.
That is always a fun area to explore.
