Questions about Bend, OR

Hello all,

I am considering taking a job in Bend Oregon. Any inmates live there? Anyone out there that can give me the inside scoop on the town, the weather, the riding, where to live, where not to live etc.? I will be in town to have a look around in a week or two, but was hoping to have some info before I arrive.

Thanks!

Property is cheaper in Crested Butte.
Seriously.
Rental cost have risen 30% here in the last year if you can find one.
http://www.ktvz.com/news/Rents-incre...esert/26113440

Home values have risen 19% in the last year. 8th fastest in the nation.

Why? It's a beautiful place to live. Temperate climate, lots to do outdoors, and tons of great breweries and restaurants.

Just like everywhere cool, EVERONE wants to live there. The growth here have been incredible over the last 2 decades.

Riding has a lot of diversity with the Cascade range to the west and the high desert to the east.

No really bad neighborhoods, just stay away from the area behind the Grocery Outlet/Baseball Stadium.

Expect to pay $1,100 a month for a crappy duplex of the West side of town $1,300 and up for a house. Slightly cheaper on the east side of town.

It's been a great place to raise a kid. Like MrDualsport says about everything else.

Hey! Want to buy a nice little 20 acre ranch?

Not only are rents and housing prices going thru the roof (sky?) but availability is a big issue.
Rental vacancy in Bend is less than 1%. If you want to buy in Bend expect to pay well over $200K
I suggest looking in Redmond (20 miles north of Bend) or another town in the area other than Bend.

Check out this thread for some local ride report info.http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=818712
The riding is pretty epic, but that can be relative. I thought Colorado was even more epic when I rode through there in June.

However, 300+ mile rides, with VERY little pavement, can be had right from the edge of town.

$200k is not expensive in Colorado. Boulder starts at $350 for a crappy 1200 square foot 60's ranch, and talk about explosive growth. Colorado is one city from fort collins to colorado springs.

Hi Clang,
Here is some great info about our state http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Oregon

http://blog.estately.com/2014/03/23-...o-bend-oregon/

Bend is beautiful and a great place to live. At approx 80,000 folks in Bend proper it is becoming quite a city.
Many cool events happen here throughout the year and there are always lots of friendly people out and about.
Easy place to make friends especially if you're not from "that other state" to our south.
Unlike the mossbacks on the west side we get lots of sunshine here east of the Cascades.
If you come out this way I would certainly have your employment already lined up. If you are in such a
situation that you can buy a home outright I wouldn't worry the job.
I love Oregon!

Same for areas of Denver, $4-500K gets you 1700 square feet of nice house, but still..

I just need a big garage/shop

Thanks, I would be coming out to take a job. Things aren't finalized yet, but we're close. I want to come see the town, and the area, and take a much closer look at the company before I agree to any employment terms.

We'll see.....
