All top box plates will have necessary supports so the OEM rear rack (usually an aluminum casting) doesn't break.
I don't guess you have used one of the Pelican cube cases then?

The Pelican cube cases are a bit big and heavy, but they have a flat bottom, so they will indeed work. Perhaps there is one suitable such as the 0340 (about 20" x 20" x 19" outside). Still a bit large and you want to be careful with weight up high on the tail rack (handling and subframe strength issues) I'll get one in here and see if it will work.

Pelican really needs to come out with a cube just big enough for a full face helmet. 20x20x19 is just way too large.

Cases

Hi Roger, do you have any pics of the R100GS and PD cases and mounts? A side view and rear view with cases mounted would be great. I am also looking for a matching Pelican trunk for 1 helmet. Still nothing available?
Thanks, Doug

We do not make a system for the R100GS

There is no Pelican case that holds a helmet and works well as a top case (see discussion just above). I'll have to mod the 1550/1520 to have something that will hold a helmet.

All right, now you have my curiousity way up, Roger.

How are you going to mod it to fit?

I don't guess there's anything in the pipeline that will approximate Jesse's 65 litre solo-only topcase?

I'm thinking of a bump-out on the lid, simple plastic lid extension, made of same polypro plastic as the Pelican case.

65 liters top box is awfully big. If lots of customers demand it I would look into it. That's a lot of weight and that big of an object way up high. The demand for such a big top box may be very small. This is something to look at further down the road in 2007.

top loaders

Roger, do you think your company will be offering top loading Pelican systems anytime soon?

Roger, any idea when you will have the pics for the KLR top case mount? And when they will be available for purchase?

Todd, I experimented with the 1440 top loaders and they are 4" wider, 1 liter less capacity, and a few pounds heavier than the side cases, I also had to mod them extensively. So I decided to not do these. Instead I've done some things with the side loaders to ensure gear does not fall out on the ground.

EDIT 2009: The 36L Top Loading luggage system based on the 1440 case is now available. Width and weight issues have ben resolved.
