Thank you all for bringing this thread back and all the info.
I've seen some of the 01-06's have cast wheels and others have wire. Was there a change over year or were wheels types options?
They went to a different swingarm and cast wheels in 2005.

ive not given up on the idea of the tiger , i had to give up the GSA early this year because of being out of work due to a crocked back

but im coming up with a cunning plan to get a 955i tiger early into the new year just need to fit a new bathroom to earn some brownie points from SWMBO

Interesting Thread

Thanks to all for contributing to the thread.

Returning Dual Sport Rider with a little cash and a lot of desire. Looking at a Tiger as a great re-entry bike (been gone 2 1/2 years). Last DS ride was as Ulysses.

Appreciate all the information and support.

I would have a look at the throttle position sensor (TPS). It's been known to cause some surging problems on the Tigers.
Thanks.... I actually have been picking some brains over at tigertriple forum and they are definitely knowledgeable guys over there As it turns out, one of my spark plugs decided to detonate inside the cylinder. After checking inside the engine for left over debris and making sure compression was still ok (along with some other checking and cleaning), I have put new plugs back in and had the dealer reset all the ECU faults. I'm happy to say that Kitty runs like a chap now with no more signs of surging.

Hey all!! I have been stalking anything that I could about the Tiger and dreaming about getting on "some day." Well that day just happened to be yesterday!! I bought an 01 Roulette Green with 19.5K on it for $600!! I bought it from the original owner who had all services done on it. There are a few things that need my attention like the handle bars are bent on the right side from the wind knocking it over. The brake lever is curled up like a backwards "J" from the same fall. It has a scrape on the tank from it falling over in the owners garage. It had been sitting for about 9 months for sale tucked up in Lake Isabella, Ca. My friend told me about it and I watched it as I saved my pennies, and yesterday I had enough pennies and brought it to its new home,.... my house!! I am really excited to put some miles on this beautiful bike! I am looking at building the bike to be my ride to Alaska in 2013. I am just so excited!! I have read from so many people on here that IF you find a Tiger, BUY IT!! So I did!! Now, the next major decision is, which set of panniers to get......?!

Allow me to be the first to say I paid $1,000 more for mine and thought that was a smoking deal. But then again, I've got the factory bags, piaa lights, Thunderbike crash bars and Touratech hand guards.

Now post up some pictures of that thing and join TigerTriple.com (which seems to be down right now)

I loved the looks of the bike, and right after I bought it I went for a 40 mile ride around Lake Isabella, that is it for me! I was in love with the bike already!! It only took about 2 miles for me to love the triple!! The check engine light was on for awhile, and I was thinking that it just needed a good run down. After my 40 mile trip and all over the rpm range, it turned off. My friend is bring the bike up to me tomorrow, friday 11-11-11!(since I live about 2.5 hours away) and I plan on going all over the place this weekend!! I will get some pics of it then!

Congrats.

You can download freeware called TuneEcu and buy a cable so you can actually run the diagnostics on the Tiger. Won't cost you more than 25 bucks, tops. Great bit of kit to have.

I bought a 2001 in 2008 with 11K miles. It had Tourtech crash bars, progressive springs. headlight flashers(great attention getter so people don't pull out in front of you, esp. here in Mexico) turn signal canceler, extenda fenders, top case and side bags all in roulette green and I paid $5,000 plus $600 to ship it from Atlanta. I could have waited to find one closer to home but this was cherry and well maintained and with all the right equipment. I have 35K miles on it now and I've had no issues altho I'm in the midst of trying to change the front sprocket and I'm having a Hell of a time getting it off. It was changed at 25K when I had the service work done and they evidently torqued it with a gun. I'm uncertain whether it's a right hand or left hand thread. My Scrambler is a right hand thread but the chain is on the right side vs. the left on the Tiger. I'm using a 1 7/16 socket on my 1/2 torque wrench for leverage. If anyone out there knows the answer before I call Randy Baxter in the morn let me know.
And yes the 955 Tiger is top heavy. I'm 6'1" and if it gets over on you or you get low centered it will go right over. No way to stop it. That's why the crash bars are a necessity. I get close to 50mpg if I keep it under 85. If I run faster the mpg drops down, but it gets better mileage than my Scrambler. The one thing I added was Thunderbike exhaust. It makes a great improvement in power and sound.
Have fun with it.

I'm hopefully picking up a well maintained and nicely equipped '01 on Thursday...if the seller ever actually gets back to me with confirmation
