Thanks. Right now she is running fine other than getting a bit warm when going slow. We'll see in the spring when I get it serviced.

Drunk Uncle,
I doubt if having run a bit of diesel hurt your motor. I did the same with my 97 BMW R1100RT when the tank truck delivering a load of premium and diesel had the baffle separating the two fail. The load mixed and was used to fill the service station's premium tank. I ran it for about 10 miles out and 10 miles back to the station. It ran progressively worse until it would barely run when I got back. Siphoned the fuel out and refilled with premium at another station. I did a bit of research following the event because I had similar concerns. However, I found that diesel has lubricating qualities and, while it runs and sounds terrible, no damage should result. I continued to ride the BMW for another 45K without any issues. |

hope that gets better...
I agree I think factoring in all the variables it might be okay after it's all sorted....
Here is a group of us going out after (bad timing) putting on some fresh shoes (Pilot Road 3)...not the best dual sport tire, but the street part was delightful. I'm thinking of making my Tiger more off road worthy when I get a new stable mate, so she won't be lonely. ![]() ![]()

Thanks JWDUB. I feel a little better. It was running fine and think the cooling issues are related to the run of diesel. I am sure a couple bikes thought WTF when I passed them belching black soot from the tail pipe afterward. Any of you Tiger guys want to come to D2D, you got a free crash spot at my house.
I have a room reserved at the downtown hotel and them camping on the Dempster for a couple days up and down afterward.

Tigers R great.

But they use different, bigger throttle bodies to help give the extra HP. Probably need the matching ECU.............So it'll all get more expensive and more involved.

If it's an 05~06 stock seat, I can't really say how much better it is than the early seat but it does seem to have better foam.

Tiger by the tail (2002 Tiger 955, seeking advice)
Hi all!
Need advice on a black, 2002 Tiger 955i. I've found one with 10k miles with three hard cases for $1,800. Looks good except for some bubbling in the paint on the tank. And it could use a bath. Maybe new tires, too. The seller is charging the battery so I can test ride it. Haven't heard it run yet. He says it's tip top. Is it a good deal? Should I buy it? What sort of problems should I look for? Oh yeah, and why do people refer to Tigers as Girlies? Cheers, Blue almostblue62 screwed with this post 01-09-2013 at 11:26 AM |

As an owner of an 06 it sounds reasonable IMHO. Have you tried tigertriple.com for more info? It's a good source for info, even why they call them girllies.

Either that's a hell of a deal, or I just got taken for a ride on a '98 with 28,000 I just bought for 2k! If it's in good mechanical shape, I would jump on it. Mine has the same paint bubbling issues; the "Steamers" had plastic tanks, through which ethanol gas can evaporate and get into the paint, but I thought the 955s had metal tanks- could be mistaken though (edit: I am mistaken, '99+ tigers do indeed have plastic tanks).
Oh and it's "girlie" because, well.... it's wearing eyeliner.

The girlies have plastic tanks too. Which makes crash bars a necessity (Touratech's look the best).

Does anyone have changed the antifreeze? From the system poured about 2L, but in the book written that there must be 2.8L....

most likely the 0.8 is the residual left in the engine .

That's a smokin deal! I paid $3300 for my '01, and it had NO accessories, and was a bit neglected with 17,000 miles.
