Some of the things I learned this weekend:

Seven days from the summer solstice and summer's not here yet.

Gary's farm is a pretty sweet place for a motorcycle camp out.

Coyotes know some cool songs.

So does SASCan.

Bob Webber (Moosehead) is always fun to follow around the Beaver Valley.

Nevin's KLR is a freaking submarine.

Bev get's her DR350 sideways on the throttle on purpose. And she LIKES it.

Going hillclimbing with Oddbawl on his 640 Adventure is always going to be interesting.

Pixelman NEVER stops smilling and enjoying himself.

South African sausage is really good. Lean and tasty. Was that gnu or impala of wildebeast? I hope so, cause that's what I'm telling everyone.

Harry deserves some kind of medal for putting his tourance shod 1150GS in the places he put it.

Breaking the ribs in your back is more painful than the front or the sides.

If you twist yourself just right and fill your lungs to force their seperation, the broken ends become a wierd kind of percussion instrument. I'm going to send a sound file to Tom Waites.

It's okay to pick your nose when you're nursing broken ribs. Blow your nose just once in that state and you'll see why.

GSP might actually be a good and useful thing - IF - you can get some decent mapping software.(Don't tell Ubert I said that).

It was great hanging with all of you scules this weekend.

Thanks Gary for a terrific weekend!

The son and I heading up north to our hunting camp for a lil get-a-way and plinking. It's always good to check the camp in late spring to make sure the bears have not ripped open a window in search of canned sardines (it's happened to us before).

Our camp is about 25 km's West of Burks Falls, near the original Nipissing trail, in fact a branch called the Missionary Rd goes right thru our 1000 acre crown land lease hold.

Spring in the bush means dealing with the hordes of black flies, skeeters, horse flies, yellow jackets and various other blood sucking menaces. And man, were they thick this week-end. So bad that taking pictures was not really on the agenda but we did snap off a few.

Had to use the chain saw 6 or 7 times to clear windfalls on the trail. Some we just go around if possible.

Lots of creek crossings.

Quite a few marshes to cross... and float through...

Made it to the camp in one piece.

The back-up that our camp sits above and provides our yearly moose meat supply.

Future Moose hunter honing his shooting skills.

I wonder if these would work on the big KTM's

Or tow one of these for fight club.

Good times, good memories.

And a visit to ghost land on the way out.

that's awesome Rummy!!!!

I'm looking so forward to time like that with my boy. He's 9 so it's time to peel him from the clutches of his mother. Times like that are so precious and so great for kids. It's those times I remember with my dad. Awesome Rummy.

Makes me think about getting all kids together and having a father son type camping trip.... My boy is all about 'surviorman'.

Dude,
Jr and I are almost prepped for a Seguin Trail camping trip including collapsible rods, micro stove and a big bottle of Bear B Gone. We are headed North July 3 and plan to putt along the trail til we find a spot we like and pitch our tent.

Anyone interested in coming along feel free to join us. We will also be taking in some of the racing in Parry Sound that weekend. Maybe RobbieO could chime in to confirm Jordan and the Brantford bunch will be ridng trials and the Supermoto racing is a hoot.

catch em an eat em

Ryan, yepp good times fer sure, get em out while they're young and show them the real world.

Dave, is that the July 1rst week-end?

Kareem, the Hummer and Rhino belong to my father. We built that camp when I was 9 or 10 so I'm keeping the tradition alive by taking my son up there.

Hey Darren,
The Canada Day thing is on Wenesday July 1, and this is the weekend following. We plan on staying somewhere on the trail from at least Friday afternoon to Sunday. A little minimalist camping should be a good time and if the fish are scared there's ome pretty good eats in Parry Sound.

The last time jr and I crossed the trail he got to see his first Moose up close and still tells the story with a gleam in his eye. He tells the story of the Black Bear on our campsite a little differently but I think we've got that covered for this trip(read M-80's and Bottle Rockets). That and a little extra food safety and it should be a good time for the younguns.

tradition is good
