At 4K rpm on mine in 6th its around 40 mph currently and the bike isn't real happy about it running that low. Ideally 5K is what I think I would shoot for if I was going to make it more streetable for a long distance ride. My dad's old roadbikes he had, they had 5 speeds and ran about the same as the KLX, 60 mph had it taching out at 5000 rpm on a bike that redlined around 8500 (Yamaha 550 4 cylinder). You also have to remember too that we are only dealing with 18 hp to begin with so trying to run 60 below the powerband really just won't happen. If I'm running 60-65 I can tackle hills no problem and headwinds aren't too bad. However the same hill if I come into it at 50 I will have to downshift because the revs are just too low for 6th to make enough power to get over.

HMF slip on #40 pilot jet question

Can anyone tell me the Kawasaki part # for a #40 pilot jet?
Also, I spoke to the engineer at HMF exhaust and he has done some major testing on a muffler for the KLX250s. He posted the power curves for all his data on thumpertalk. He said they just finished testing and are producing & selling as I write. FYI

Thanks,
backwoods

Is 7000 rpms 0k for these long rides or do you think that i need to adress going to different gears i tend to want to ride 70 75 mph on the road but the rpms just seem to high what do you think a good rpm is that won't harm the engine on long rides or are the gears i have now fine

On the Kawi forum, or maybe it was here, the HMF people were less than interested in divulging what their pipe actually did for the power of the bike. Their upgrade list mirrors that of what we do here and then they slapped their pipe on and dyno-ed it. When asked if the carb mods made the biggest difference their answer was just NO and refused to talk about it further. Also their pipe, when it requires repacking has to be sent back to them as the end cap uses "special" rivets to hold it together and they have a good sized fee plus shipping to repack it.

I checked a few websites last night and both of the ones I looked at still had the tank listed as on backorder.

I ordered mine from: http://www.motosport.com/product.jsp...5092&id=226248

I took only three days after I ordered to arrive.
Hope I didn't take their last one.

Cool2 Questions???

Yo, Yo,

I'm new to this forum! I'm for surely purchasing a new KlX 250s in the verry near future, just waiting on an insurance settlement from a car accident a couple of years ago. The money was supposed to be here two weeks ago.
So I'm getting super ancy. Plan on doing all the free mods including the MUZZY and carb rejet. I've read through this thread a few times now and think it's awesome love the pics and info!!! Ok, just a few questions. 1. What kind of aftermarket air filter are you guys using? Do you even need to upgrade the filter? 2. I see that there's no brackets for the pipe gaurd on the muzzy....any problems with that? 3. What if anything did you guys do for the small clearance problem between the mid pipe and the right buddy peg? 4. Do you guys think it's best to leave the bike stock for a while, I plan on breaking her in the first day I get it, or open her up ASAP? I appologize if these questions have been answered, lots of material to sift through. Thanx for any info. Can't wait to post some pics!!.......If that damn check ever gets here.

Rpm

Hello all. Muzzy and Dynojet came in a few days ago.. couldnt get it to a shop in time(long weekend). So I did the work myself.with a whole lot of help from all you guys and your pics, everything went smoothly. I just want to give my 2 cents worth to everyone askin about what is a safe RPM to travel at... I I ride my KLX everyday to work,68 km( whatever that is in miles) and travel at 6000 to 6500 RPMs, doin 100 to 110 km. I've put well over 6000 km on the KLX and it still goes as good as the day I got it( well for the exeption of the Muzzy holy **** ). I wouldnt worry too much about the RPMs it redlines at 10500...My bike seems to be at its best around 5500 to 6500. So just give' er

On my BMW the fan was always quick to come on in this kind of heat. I don't pretend to be the least bit mechanically inclined, but have any of you noticed this? And would you consider it normal or odd?

Would appreciate some feedback, thanks.

Yep its cool Crusher only time my fan ever comes on is in first gear working it hard, with any airflow at all it never comes on. Pix of you and the bike will enable us to help you further

Cheers

I've seen that picture 100 times and just realized that that KLX doesn't have the rear rack, rear lower fender, or the mirrors. Strange that Kawasaki would publish that pic for promotions.

Hey Tremor, you a local National or at Misawa? Just left that area about a year and a half ago. Here is some pics of the gorge I took a few yours ago: http://www.hughesphotography.biz/gallery2.htm

Bet you had a blast rolling up the twisty roads! We used to go camping up there quite a bit. Good times!
